Hi Folks,
Had my passenger window reaffixed to window slide this week ( Monaro CV8 2004).
All fine for a day, then both exterior and interior door handles have stopped working. My wife had to climb out of the passenger seat via the drivers door!
Any idea what's happened?
And how do I fix it?
Thanks in advance, hopefully.Simon.

the rods have probably come adrift from the handles or the main one from the latch not sure how to get door open but it looks like you may have to slightly break the door card back you may get around breaking it badly by removing some screws that you can get to, to get to the rod system cry

Has the door lock knob gone all the way up on the inside as the lock motors are known to fail ...maybe its failed in the lock position . Try lock/unlock a few times with the remote whilst lifting the internal knob manually at the same time to see if it comes unlocked

Yes,the rod ( via the central locking) has gone all the way up.The garage suggested it was a failure at the door lock mechanism,ie a single problem.

I haven't got a clue with this one, but I would try the ignition key in the drivers door first...just incase the dead lock might release the locking mechanism....you never know.....
Failing that, lower the door glass fully then look down the inside the door, use a good LED tourch and see if anything obvious has come adrift. If it has you will have to rig something up like an old metal coat hanger and see if you can unlatch the lock. You might also want to remove the inner door handle and see if the rod has disconnected from that end.

You might even want to contact your nearest Vauxhall dealer, as the locking mechanism is similar to a Vauxhall Omega, yes it's a long shot.....but they may have dealt with something similar before.
Best of luck.

sounds like they disturbed something while fitting the window . the motor simply unlocks and locks it. the open mechanism is a seperate mechanical item .

i wouldnt want to damage the door card as they are very difficult to source .

id go with attempting to get in with a coat hanger etc . the internal handle slots into the rod. you maybe able to hook the rod and open the door . then see whats amiss .

I agree with maccavvy, it's VERY unlikely that the lock mechanism has suddenly broken. It's extremely likely that the rods were not put back properly i.e. the little plastic fittings have not been secured.
Here are some pictures of the inside of my door from when I did my door handles. I took'em at the time as it's easier to cram a phone indisde a door to see what's what than my head. Hopefully it'll guide your efforts with coathanger wire.

Thanks for the info and photos.I imagine both handles connect to the same mechanism, therefore at some point that mechanism has moved/unclipped ,so both handles are not connected to the door latch.Car was frozen up yesterday and its pouring down today,so it will have to wait .Removing interior handle first seems like a good idea?

The last photo is of the actual door latch ( the brown thing ).

Is that a rod with a blue plastic end that connects to the handles ? within the brown door latch?

When the glass became detached from the slider, attempting to lower the glass, opened the door,so I wonder if its distorted or broke something,eg a plastic clip or rod end?Im guessing, have no idea how it all works, since I didn't open up the door card.

Well, got out to the car.The inner handle all seems attached, but i guess not at the far end( door lock end).

The rod with the blue end coming towards you in the last photo is to the internal handle. If you look at the upper rods, one is for the lock and the uppermost one goes to the outside handle. The outer handle's rod is locked using the plastic fittings at the top, but is a simple push at the door latch mechanism.
There is an online EPC at https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/epc/pontiac/2v1... See section 10 There is a proper diagram of it all there.

The passenger side one won't have the lock rod, just the handle. There is every chance that the door glass dislodged or more likely bent the exterior handle rod and that's jammed the whole thing.

My pictues 1-6 are in fact of the passenger side. The exterior rod handle looks straight but does have bends in it, see handle photo.

I think you're going to have to partly move the door card. See https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... for a link to https://www.ls1gto.com/threads/in-depth-thread-on-... which has the instructions there. Screws ( inaccessible to you right now ) at the bottom, but the top slips over a lip ( as is pretty standard for door cards ).
It may ( just ) be possible to pull the card over the lip at the top ( after removing accessible screws and the interior handle ), but it'll be a bh to do without damaging it.

Can you take it back to the window fitter to fix?
