contact dealer warning

A good quality scan tool should show up any fault codes if they have been triggered. Vauxhall will have a tech 2 which will show any recorded faults. I was quoted £70 a few years ago which I thought was a rip off for a 2 minute job, I complained at the price and the guy I was dealing with was quite arrogant so I walked away....as is my usual main dealer practice.
If the car isn't boiling over, running hot or losing coolant then I suspect it is a sensor fault. If you get stuck I can only think of taking the car to AAS in Newcastle but it is quite a drive for you.

any dealer with a good code reader will be able to tell you , if the code is still on display even the 15£ ones on ebay can read the code , poor battery that may appear to be ok is a common issue , 02 sensors are again a common issue but the ebay one will not pick up on it s it’s 02 sensors
There is an apple or possibly an android app called “four stroke“ , it needs a wireless adaptor , i’m not sure if it was bluetooth or wifi , the adaptors are cheap and that works quite well , understanding the data is more involved if it’s not showing a code , always buy au 02 sensors or buy from walkinshaw or aas etc , i went via rock auto they were not the same 02 sensors and did not work plus were not cheap ones , but as you said it could just be the coolant sensor if every thing else is ok

Generic stuff is largely pointless, Envyous customs do an app for the dongles that is more specific to the vehicles in question.
This looks quite useful, thanks for the advice.https://www.envyouscustoms.com/diagnostics/diagnos...
I note the VZs are OBD 2 complaint and my Aeroforce scan gauges aren’t too bad at reading and clearing fault codes.
Most of my own problems have been down to duff batteries.
