I have not been on this site for a long while, but still drive a 2004 Monaro [Pontiac GTO].
Have all of you sold your HSV? No one is posting.

I'm still the proud owner of my GTO hood nostrilled 5.7 CV8 '05 Monaro.
Some have sold up. Others have moved to Faceache groups. I don't do Facebook.
It's been a long time since you posted, how are you?

Thanks for asking how I am.
Could no longer afford to live in Brooklyn, New York, so packed up my stuff and my cars and my birds and my dogs and relocated to West coast if Florida. I have a federally-protected forest behind my house and there are all sorts of critters overflowing from it, the least-dangerous being alligators, and the mist dangerous being assorted poisonous snakes. Also have my own in-ground pool.
New home cost one third of what I got for old home and taxes are so much less. Cannot find a new woman until the virus clears. Left old GF in Manhattan and will not invest in anything until virus clears

And Dickey, I am also on my second Monaro.
Some here will recall that my first one drowned in Hurricane Sandy [2012].

I'm still here 9 years in with a Monaro VXR, although have added a Ute and a Commodore wagon since, very much in for the long haul I suspect hehe

As above, most long term (and new) owners use the facebook groups, although this is still a good place for technical help, as posts get lost on facebook pretty quickly.

With Holden out of business, parts are getting pretty rare and expensive.
What normal person drives around in a 2004 car that has never had its coolant hoses replaced (except for the three main radiator hoses) because of the impossibility of matching up new ones?
And if a computer fails, then what?
Even the damn alarm clicker (except for crap from china) is becoming rare.
It was easier to get parts for my 1980 Triumph TR-7. That company went belly-up within two years of my getting the cute little car.
Just venting.

Body panels, trim pieces and lights and things I can see getting pretty hard to find, but the drivetrain shouldn't cause too many headaches, especially in the states?

They sold a pretty decent number of GTOs out there didn't they (in the tens of thousands?) so there must be a decent amount of spares at wreckers yards?

3D printing may come to the rescue in the medium term future scratchchin

Yes, most of these cars have made it to the junk yards.
And as I have said, the computers might at some point might become a big issue.
Seems that I have always been drawn to British things.
Most of my record collection is by British artists.
Some of my favorite shoes.
My favorite tavern liquorice.
My Yorkshire Terrier.
The English language.

Get a new and better one ? holley terminator or something.
People can keep pre war bugattis going, an old GM car with an LS is never going to be a problem. I don't even find it particularly hard to keep my 99 commodore going here in the UK where there were only 32 sold.

That's a good point Ive been thinking about changing all my heater and radiator hoses for sometime.
Apart from the Mishimoto main hoses any ideas where to get the rest?

Come on you lot!

These things are worshipped down under. Parts supply won’t be a problem. If you get stuck ask on here and I’m sure one of the Oz members can help.

Oz EBay is the answer. And Rare Spares etc.

I think the Americans bought around 40,000 GTO's, so they are super rare in the states. Having said that it wouldn't surprise me if half of them were in the junk yard by now.
As for the rest, a fair amount of cars will be on their last legs and the few good ones left will be no doubt cherished.
It's shame really the GTO's were way better than the competition at the time but the buying public didn't like them that much.
I suspect a few years from now they will realise what they let pass them by and people will seek the remaining cars out.
The Americans couldn't give a toss foe electric or diesel cars, and they do love their retro classics, so maybe if enough GTO's survive someone will start making the parts again

I put some effort into sourcing a hose kit from Aussieland without luck. There is a silicon hose kit being offered, but I refuse to buy chinese anything.
Speaking of chinese crap, I spent a year helping a friend who lives in California design a superior headshell for Dual (brand name) turntables.
People fell in love with these things. He and his wife could not make them fast enough.
Then someone in china began flooding the market with an exact visual but absolutely-inferior copy for cheap. Killed my friend's business in two seconds flat.
Anyone here see an exact parallel to our parts predicament?
