Hi all
I bought a 6L Monaro in 2006 and sold it 5 years later, I bought another same model same year all stock apart from an AAS exhaust ( as far as I know ) I bought just before covid lockdown so not used much, which led to flat battery issues but now although seems to be running fine there is the occasional dreaded engine waring light but it sound and runs ok.
My question is this who are the best garage to fully service and generally check everything over for peace of mind.
Cheers Moy

If you haven't replaced the battery I would get that tested first as well as the alternator. It's not unknown for weak batteries to cause all sorts of issues, so a new battery may be on the cards.
In any case for you the best place to take your car for a Heath check will be AAS in Newcastle. They will check the whole car over for you, if there are any issues they will sort them out.

Hi Guys thanks for the quick replies, I will get in touch with AAS and get it booked in.
I bought the car from a car enthusiast bloke from Morpeth in Northumberland and it came with a lot of history including all it's MOT's, the original owner had the number plate ( C1YER on it they were from Lancashire ). There are invoices for a new alternator in Jan 2019 and a new battery in Jan 2020, so it might just need to be started and run a bit more, but I will get it checked out.
It just shows says check engine after running for a while, but nothing specific.
Once again thanks for the replies

Forgot to say, I've got a pretty decent scan tool if you want me to use it. It can reset any codes should you wish to......
Thanks for the kind offer, I live in Redcar in the north east are you any where near?Once again thanks for the replies.
I have been using the car more and the battery has been ok, although sometimes it feels like it only just starts the car, if you know what I mean? It's been that long since owning the first car I can't remember if that's how our first car seemed.
It has also used quite a lot of oil considering we haven't done many miles, again what is normal for the Monaro, again I don't remember the old car using excessive amounts of oil.
Appreciate you answers and suggestions guys, must say it's not made me want the car any less but just want to be sure there's no major issues to worry about.
Cheers Boy
Live near Sunderland, work near 'Artlepool
Mine doesn't use any oil that I can tell, neither did my old one, but they are both LS1s. Not sure if the LS2 uses a little more. It'll tend to use more if you're doing short trips? Or maybe a heavier weight oil could be used, Stuart will be able to advise on that I'd imagine.
All the best

Welcome back to Monaro ownership I might see you around... I live a whole 10 minutes from Redcar!
As others have said start with the battery. My Monaro will drain the battery if it is sat longer than a couple of weeks and once it does that it throws all sorts of problems. I borrowed a charger from a friend to top it off if it's sat more than a week and never have any issues.
When I first got the car I had a few CEL's that would come up 5 minutes into driving and then dissapear less than a minute later... Not had any of those in several months now though. I put it down to a bit of moisture in a plug somewhere as the car didn't move over winter.

Shouldn’t be burning oil, have you checked for leaks? Early LS1s has problems but that was solved by 2000/01 from memory. As others said give battery a good charge and that should help with start issues. They are a slow cranking engine so a weak battery will only just kick it over.
First of all thanks to V88Dicky for meeting me at his work place and using his code reader, but as it turned out there were no codes to read. He also re-set the service indicator on the dash and after a quick chat I was on my way. It was a 50 mile round trip and I had a really good blast home but just as I pulled into my estate the check engine light came on once again and after I parked on the drive a another warning light appeared on the dash stating get a service soon!!!!! The car ran fine all the way home so all very strange.
I plan to book it in with AAS in Newcastle very soon for a service and check up as soon as I can arrange it.
Once again thanks to V88Dicky

Don't worry about the service indicator they seem to have a life of their own.
The fact that no trouble code have shown up is also not unheard of, so don't worry about that either.
If you get stuck I have two 02 sensors in my garage you can try. They are the pre cat sensors I replaced a few years ago when I thought they were faulty.....as it turns out they were fine but I left the new sensors in. They can be Sod's to remove mind so you might want to see if yours will slacken off first.

My pleasure mate, it was good to meet you. Lovely car you have, I'm sure whatever is causing the intermittent CEL will be something simple!I plan to book it in with AAS in Newcastle very soon for a service and check up as soon as I can arrange it.

Just follow the exhaust pipe from the engine block until you come to what appears to be a silencer. That is the cat converter, you will see that each cat has two sensors fitted, one before and one after the cat. Each one has a wire and plug connector attached to it.
The sensor's are bolted into the exhaust pipe and you just have to unbolt them, I say just...as they can be seized.
The wire has to be unclipped from the main harness, you need to be careful you don't snap anything.
I replaced my sensors in around 20 mins but they weren't rusted in. The rear sensors on my car are still original and so far are working fine.
