Hey guys,

My 04 CV8 has failed it's MOT on the track rod end, left side I believe.

Anyone know where to track them down? Walkinshaw are not responding.

Edit:. They have responded finally and part ordered.

I'm down south but like I said Walkinshaw came through in the end, hopefully.. we'll see if it's the correct one.

To update, Walkinshaw sent the wrong track rod end, car is still sitting at the MOT garage, I thought this would be a simple affair but it’s been nearly two weeks now with no end in sight.

I haven’t seen the part, not sure if it was aftermarket or why it’s so much trouble to find a replacement.

I had the same problem a few years back, the track rods are handed and if I remember right the one that is marked as left goes on the drivers side and the one marked as right goes on the passenger side.

Ok they're telling me that they are not handed, and identical each side.

Anyway they've given up finding one after two weeks and are leaving it as an advisory.

When I bought Pedders track rod ends, they were not handed, had one as an MOT advisory so just replaced both as they're so cheap and easy to do.

Monaro VXR with the pedders quick rack, but they're all the same track rod end as far as I am aware, certainly there weren't any alternative options on the pedders website thumbup

I’ve thought about replacing the lot with a Pedders rack but they aren’t in stock.

Reading about GTO’s, there were clearly two different racks, and apparently one has the same ‘tie rods’ as the C5 Corvette.

I know I’m not the only one with this problem, there were a couple threads on here.

So one has a coarser thread.

Contact pedders UK and speak to Andy or Roger ( Monkfish ) and they will sort the job out.

That's odd as on Rockauto both the 2004 5.7 and the 2005 6.0 have the same GM part number for the tie rod end. The C5 Corvette tie rod end on RockAuto has a different part number and looks quite different to the GTO ones as well. I'm sure RockAuto is by no means exhaustive though, so who knows.

Either way, an alternative to Pedders if you end up stuck could be to get a couple from RockAuto, for reference here's the links for the 2004 and 2005 GTO. These look identical in shape to the Pedders ones, naturally the ball joint may be a little softer on the GM ones.

Reading the GTO forums, it looks like the C5 one won't fit so scratch that

According to my garage they ordered a dozen different ones including from Walkinshaw who were unaware of any other types.

This is an 04 big boot CV8.

That looks the same as the pedders one and the ones linked on RockAuto above for what that's worth. A Rock Auto order earlyish today would probably have it with you by Monday / Tuesday, AC Delco are the GM OEM suppliers if you're unsure which brand to go with.

Hi
Did you manage to resolve this? If so which track rod end did you use and where did you get it from?
I have the same problem on my 04 big boot Monaro with a Pedder's quick rack. I have tried a couple of alleged Monaro track rod ends and they do not fit. The thread diameter is larger on the Pedder's rack.
Unfortunately Pedder's are out of stock still.

TIA

Does someone know if it's possible to swap the threaded rod from an OEM rack into a Pedders quick rack? To solve the track rod end problem.
Or is the ball end of the rod inside the rubber bellows a different dimension?

Not sure what the prpoblem is? The Pedders racks are a completely standard rack, but faster ratio than the original. Everything is interchangeable including the track rod ends. The pedders part number is PTE3049 and they are in stock.

Only the very early commodores (99-00) use the fine pitch thread variant.

So based on what roger stated about the Pedder's racks and he should known. I guess the track rod end being sold for Monaro's are not actually for Monaro's.
Roger your web site, said they were out of stock earlier today and last week as you were the first place I checked? Just ordered 2 a moment ago. :-)
