Hi all, long time since I've been here.

I bought my Monaro new in 2004. I used to run a very nice Opel Commodore B GS/E coupe. Eventually I sold it in yr2000 and then had an Audi TT and then a Boxster S.But GM stuff seems to run in my blood and as soon as the Monaro was announced - a spiritual successor to the Commodore coupe - I knew I was having one. Enter GM04 MON in May 2004.

I ran it up until late 2017 when the clutch failed. I bought a new clutch for it at the time, but never actually got around to fitting it, as at about the same time, I was getting into another form of transport, cycling of all things. New clutch?....or new bike? ... or new bikes? So bikes it was and the Monaro was SORN'd and put away in the garage to be resurrected at some point in the future.

Well Monday was the day!

The spec of the car prior to it being SORN'd was:

Monkfish/Wortec performance pack, stainless headers and exhaust, circa 400bhp.
Pedders lowered suspension and dampers.
AP brakes all round 6 pot calipers on the front an 4 pot on the rear.
Harrop rear diff cover with extra mounting points for improved diff support.
Mishimoto radiator upgrade and a few other bits and bobs including a stereo upgrade.

To get the car back on the road the car has had:

New LS7 clutch and flywheel.
New AP discs and pads.
New battery.
Full service and fluid change.
Full valet inside and out.

To say I'm pleased to have it back would be a huge understatement...absolutely love it!

Off on a road trip on Friday and can't wait!

Many thanks to Tom at Canfield Garage near Great Dunmow in Essex who did the work:

That's great to see it back to full health smile

Similar upgrades to mine, save for the headers and clutch. Very nice beer

At a car show a few years ago. Nice to see that it still looks to be in very good condition. Believed to live in Scotland now.

I have lots of pictures of when I used to own it and some of the road trips I did in it. But that was before the days of digital photography so I'll have to scan them biggrin

good luck with getting one!!! They are R.A.R.E. - they were rare 30 years ago, very much moreso now frown I was enquiring after a reto project in Scotland about 8 years ago but the bloke wanted £1,500 for it (IIRC) - that was basically a rolling shell (part of me still wishes I'd bought it).

Funny thing is that my GS/E coupe was also white (no vinyl roof) and I had a TT 225 (blue with blue interior)

I owned the GS/E between 1996 and 2000. The previous owner to me had carried out a bodywork restoration and it was in good condition. During my ownership I did some more work to the body, and a lot of mechanical work including a head rebuild for unleaded fuel, and a brake and suspension overhaul. I sold it for £3500 in 2000 as far as I can remember.

In 2012 I saw it for sale in a classic car magazine for £7000. I immediately got on the phone intending to buy it back straight away, but sadly I just missed it as it had been sold.

It was one of the best cars I have ever owned (aside from the Monaro) and immediately regretted selling it. For an Audi TT....biggrin

Rare as rocking horse poo in the UK now days.

That's funny. You didn't also own a Peugeot 205 GTI as well? biggrin

Your Commodore will have looked like this then. I always though that they looked great in white.

How sad I think mine met the same fate it’s only when they are gone that you realise what you’ve done

I won't make the same mistake with the Monaro!

What other big GM motors have you had?

I had a monza , 3 Carlton 24v gsi’s 1 auto 2 manual the last one was owned by a mechanic who worked for the Thames valley police as head of servicing and that car was incredibly quick it would give my monaro a real run for its money then inevitably once I found the monaro I wanted I bought the one I have now I have had it now coming up 8 years
