I live down a little a country lane that’s about a mile long and has about 10 houses down it. It’s a dead end and leads into footpaths and bridle ways that cross all over east and West Sussex.
Since lockdown we’ve seen a lot more walkers going past our house which is to be expected. Me and my partner both have young kids from previous relationships that spend their time with both parents which means that we have to ferry them around a few times a week (not that it’s a problem!)
What is annoying me is that I’ve had a mixture of reactions to my car. When I park it up in town to go shopping I generally have people (mainly men) asking me what it is, what engine it has etc etc, which I love.
Now, it is noisy. I have a full Wortec system including headers and decats. I have however refitted the centre box because with the delete pipe in place it was ridiculous!
It is still loud but not too loud and it does resonate at about 2k and can sound like it’s going faster than it actually is!
But I’ve had abuse, people standing or walking in front of me to stop me getting past, and countless dirty looks from this new wave of walkers on the lane. I don’t drive fast up it. I’ve got 4 kids under 10 and a dog that regularly play outside and I hate anyone speeding down it (limit is 20). I do however, seem to get this reaction whenever I take the car out. Either lovers or haters but not much in between. Just wondered what reactions others got and if this was the norm?

Hmmm. What a strange one! I would say it certainly isn't normal and I can't say I've ever had such behaviour when out and about in mine. That said I'd guess my AAS system is a good deal more reserved than your Wortec, based on what I remember about my 1st Ro that had one fitted. Even then I didn't get such reaction.
Perhaps its down to the crisis we currently face...
Because of the car type, some will think you're just out having a 'joy' ride, flauting the guidelines when should be 'staying at home'.
Some will just be generally extra irritable due to the lockdown restrictions and your noisy car is spoiling their peaceful walk.
Apparently its a very stressful time, I say apparently because it isn't for me, however if it is for some then its likely some things that normally wouldn't bother folk now easily grate on them.
Never the less, this isn't your problem. Run the bds over, put them out of their misery.laugh

Remember we've also got a new breed of 'eco' warriors that hate you for killing the planet in your old gas guzzling monster car! What you should be doing is scrapping your perfectly serviceable old car and have a brand new battery powered one built for you using super rare and precious resources because of course that isn't harmful at all!laugh

Im using mine for all essential runs at the moment and am not finding any strange reactions really. It’s interesting to note that younger people really don’t pay it that much attention, it’s the older ones who shout “nice car” at me or want to talk about it. If I’d have seen my car go past when I was in my 20s, I’d have been all over it.

I’m noticing a lot more unusual cars on the roads lately so I think a lot of people are doing the same.

Maybe you’re right and it’s down to the area that I’m in. There are a lot of sandal wearing, vegetarian eco warriors around here!!

explain to a prius owner how their car is in no way environmental at all , the mining for the battery chemicals is very destructive it’s then shipped by boat which pollutes more than planes , it then stops working after 7 years or so and has to be land filled , so a lot of older prius drivers are using the engine not the batteries , at least pretty well most of a v8 will be reused , either as parts or a kit car

Those Tesla things aren't any better either. How can anyone spending so much money on a new car possibly think they are saving the planet.

You get a lot more smoke if you do a burnout in second gear, this should mean as well as being unable to hear them, you'll be unable to see them either thumbup

Haha. Cracking advise. I can still keep it under the 20 mph limit too!!
I’ll let you know how it goes down!

I expect it has more to do with the fact you’re driving around during lockdown than the car.

I had something similar to some tree hugging eco knob woman recently who asked why I felt the need to have such a gas guzzling car who cornered me in a local car park trying to dare to lecture me. I asked how many miles she did in her 1.2ltr cak box to which the reply was 6k or there abouts and.....what did that have to do with anything? she asked me puzzled...I was being very polite to the point of taking the pis*. I then pointed out that she was doing a far better job of shafting the environment than me as my car does 1500 miles a year if its lucky. This she didn't like and wandered off with a face like a slapped arse! See bogan on the road but informed philosopher on the pavement !

I work in a garage in a yard behind houses in a part of south london. Ive been there 15 years and have all sorts of noisy motorbikes and cars coming and going, during that time.

Just in the last two weeks the neighbours have made comments about the noise. My advice, dont move next to a garage.

I think because its generally quieter everwhere since lockdown, people notice noisy cars more.

Whinging leftie pussies.

This. If they want to moan, give them something to moan about.

It used to sound like this so people should think themselves lucky that it’s a fair bit quieter now!!
