OK, it's just the knob but you know what would happen if it was in the thread title. smile

Ideally, I'd like to simply replace it but they appear to be unobtanium. As a covid19 job, I got the whole stick off and had a very close look:

It appears to be a sliver foil on top of a sort of resin. It's quite weighty so there is likely metal in it and I managed to detach it from the shaft and rub it down (matron....) but the plastic part does not detach from the leather part. I've prepared it but touching up with paint will look poor. My first attempt at spraying the whole silver part instead hasn't come out well, it's impossible to mask off the leather sufficiently without pulling up the edges on removal. frown

Any suggestions other than replace? Even a generic one would suffice but I can't find a single one with the correct 6 gear configuration with R top right.

Ok, I should have added for a 'reasonable' cost, e.g. second hand in the UK on ebay. wink Skinflint that I am. Or generic trash.

I'm aware of stuff rom Rock Auto, GM parts giant etc. got some of the rear light cluster clips from there.

I've a friend who works in the USA and he's brought a couple of things over for me (comes back twice a year usually) but they may not be possible for a while. frown

Giving it another go, thin coats of sliver then lacquer:

I would just carry on as you are and see how the paint turns out.
A second hand one will probably not be cheap unless you get lucky.
Mind you if you haven't got some sort of shifter kit installed, I would use the opportunity to upgrade the car and buy a complete Hurst shifter kit.
The money you are saving on fuel during the lock down will pay for it anywaysmile

I got a carbon ball one off ebay for very little..
ive had my trims carbon dipped so fits in a treat
I know where reverse is so no need for a legend on top.
although a vinyl one could be made I suppose

I am sure what you are doing will look fine, just take time when cleaning up near leather.

The leather gaiter was loose in a couple of places so I sorted that out. A few drops of epoxy resin:

This was the finished article. It's not perfect (you can see where I didn't perfectly blend under the 6) but a huge improvement for some cheap silver paint and lacquer:

And all refitted. While the centre console was out, I fixed the rear oddments tray that wouldn't close before. smile

How it'll stand up to heavy use I'll discover when I have the need to drive the car more. frown

Superb mate! Looks spot on.
Take your rings off when driving it (if applicable!) that will help keep it nice.

Don’t know why but I immediately thought of this
