Hi all,

I need some help, I've got a 2004 Ro that I cant connect any diagnostic tools to read error codes. I have a Gendan pro laptop tool plus 2 cheap code readers and they cannot connect to the car. The obd port is live as the readers power up.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Jamie.

Have you checked the wiring behind the plug for anything out of place? I have a tech 2 that connects to mine OK. It's a 2006 LS2 though so not sure if anything different there.

my 04 cv8 can be read with a cheap ebay code reader so it’s sounding like a port or related issue

Thanks for your replys guys. The car was built by Monkfish, have you ever heard of the locking the ECU? They had it plugged in a couple of years ago with no issues.

i’ve heard of locking but you should still be able to access things via the obd port , i think a damaged wire near the obd port is a likely culprit , is it definitely plugging in , the electric part of the obd has not fallen out of the area or clips into ? , if it’s plugging in is the obd reader not at least lighting up ?

The readers are lighting up but says cannot connect via a lot of different protocols. It's a strange one. Since Monkfish last plugged it in the car hasn't done much so I feel a broken wire is unlikely but I will go and check shortly to see if there is anything visible.

Right I've got an update, unscrewed the OBD port and checked wiring, all is good. Decided to plug in the Gendan tool and in settings clicked force readings from cars with partial support, bingo connected but saying no faults which is not true, I have the check engine message sometimes which relates to the LS2 MAF and I have an ABS fault.

Thoughts....

on some cars a maf fault will not come up with a code , i don’t know enough about your type of code reader you have , but only a good one will tell you all faults you have , i had two code readers an ebay one and a more technical on line one neither would pick up the 02 sensor faults on my 04 monaro

An 04 car is nothing LS2.

And whoever mentioned the 06 car...totally different from the 04 car.

I have bought various cheap OBD devices and due to their flakeyness given up with them. Some time ago I got this "https://www.obdlink.com/lxbt/" availble from various online shops. Works faultlessly on my 04 CV8.

It won't do ABS faults though, only stuff related to the engine, ABS info would have to be via ALDL, and that's a Tech2 thing.

Sorry I didn't explain much about my car it's by no means standard, Monkfish mapped in the MAF from the LS2 as a better alternative for added flow. The car is running around 640 at 11psi.

Last time I talked to the Snap-on guy he was saying that they have an upgrade for the Snap-on machines that does cars from the southern hemisphere now. As I had asked about my Ute.
