Monaro alarm and immobiliser?
Discussion
Does anyone know what type of alarm and immobiliser are fitted to the '05 Monaro as standard?
I pick up my car in a few weeks time and am just trying to sort out the insurance. Norwich Union has come up with the best quote so far, but they want the names of the alarm and immob.
Thanks,
Neil

several people have asked the same question over the last year or so. To cut a long story short, the Monaro alarm isn't Thatcham approved ..

The alarm system on you Monaro is the Holden ESS system. It should be described in your user manual.
I would try TESCO or Adrian Flux as they do not require any more than the standard ESS system that Holden fit.
The ESS system is much better than a Thatcham Cat 1 but because it has not got a Thatcham stamp on it most insurers don't recognise it.
You have to work out if it is cheaper to go for what your insurance company wont or keep the car stock.

Many insurers quoted me for Insurance but before the policy was agreed they added a caveat that it would only be fully covered for theft if I added an approved Tracker and Thatcham approved immobiliser.
Tesco was one of the ones I tried but they would not cover my model Monaro.
Even Vauxhall's own insurance would not cover me without a Tracker and upgraded alarm. This enabled me to force the dealer to at least pay for the immobiliser.
On my 2005 5.7, in order to get any insurance I paid to fit a Tracker Retrieve (£300) and made the Vauxhall garage (Lance Owen Heathrow) upgrade the immobiliser (£400) to a Thatcham approved Sigma.

Thanks folks. NU have so far only asked for the makes of the devices...they haven't yet stated that they need to be Thatcham 1, but it may well be the case.
Have since had a cheaper quote from Admiral, with no quibling over alarms/immobs/trackers and a much lower excess. Tried Tesco, but they gave the most expensive quote I've had so far. Have yet to try Adrian Flux.
Generally speaking, I've always found strange the great variance in quotes different people receive from the same insurance co. A lot of people get a good deal from Tesco for example, but my quotes have always been really high.
