I'm assuming this is why the bonnet doesn't stay up because the strut has shat its load!
Any ideas what might shift this stuff, it has set like a tar...

A combination of a hair dryer and WD40 did the trick. Plenty of elbow grease too!

Silver, it is a standard one, but it was chipped and marked in several places so I sprayed it in Hammerite silver as I had plenty in the garage.
