Hi, not been on for ages as everything was going well with monaro but not with Range Rover so been on these forums, I went to vacuum the monaro out and the passenger side front was saturated with water even the back footwell is damp. I have put a hose over the outside and nothing is obvious where it's coming from has anyone else ever had this,to be fair our weather has been extremely wet recently. It must be getting in when parked as i have not driven it in the rain for months. Thanks.

Isn't there a potential issue with the membrane behind the front door cards, in that if it comes unstuck at the bottom it allows water to run into the car?

Thanks, that could be the issue as the door card and membrane needed to come off to repair the passenger window.

QED!
From the beginning of Monaros, there has been a problem with the door membranes.

Search 'monaro membrane' and plenty will pop up.

For example...

Take the door card off then remove the plastic film, clean off the old sealant and liberally apply sealant to the door. Pay particular attention to the door speaker area then refit the plastic sheet and door card.

Beautiful day but cold so I thought I would have a look, there was a small ripple on the membrane at the bottom but no sign of any water residue but I will reseal it, I saw water at the bottom of the speaker so I took it out and its soaking with the terminals corroded away from the the speaker. It looks like the water has been dripping in to the plastic speaker pod and coming through in to the car as the pod had water in the bottom. I will make up a shield to go at the back of the pod so the water hits that then goes where it's supposed to go. I will need to dry the car out first to see if this solves the problem. I have a dehumidifier in it at the present time to speed up the process and will keep you posted on the outcome. I will need to replace the speaker I would think are they universal providing you have the correct size and wattage. Thanks again for everyone's help.

Where is the water running in from? Are the doors seals ok?

I believe the speakers might be a 2 ohm impedance, just bare this in mind when replacing them. Most aftermarket type are 4.

Stewart , from memory did you take a door handle off , i can’t remember if it
was a lock or window issue , is it the same side as the leak so is water coming in from there ?

Theoretically the water passes through the door. So water runs down the door glass, some runs over the trim and down the door skin, some runs behind the trim and passes through the door - this is normal BTW that's why they have drain holes. If there is a problem with the membrane then some water can pass through between the door and door card, it falls on to the plastic inner sill trims and then on top of or under the carpets.

I take it that the door drains are clear? Just thinking that if not, water could back up in the door cavity until it makes its way out of the nearest available exit which could be the speaker housing? If your car is sat outside a lot, with all the rain we've been having?

The drain holes are clear and no sign of water on the membrane, it looks like the water has been dripping down and getting caught by the white plastic speaker pod as it sticks out in to the door aperture, my thought was to put a plastic deflector on the back of the pod to deflect the water, as reading the threads I thought it was normal for the water to run through the door.

Its easy to hate cars isn't it?!!laugh

Over the years with my cars, its only the 'special' ones that have these niggle type problems, the bog standard Astra diesel type car do not!

If you want to hate cars buy a Range Rover, I have had the monaro ten years this year and it's been pretty good but I didnt think that when I had the window problem then the radiator went and the the main belt snapped and I was thinking it was time to move on. I bought a V8 l322 Vogue OMG every week something goes wrong and that's not an exaggeration, so when things do go wrong occasionally with the monaro I forgive it very quickly. Good call with the speaker yes its 2 ohm 30w.. I will get the inside dried out to see if this is the cause of the water ingress and I will leave the door card off for now. I have attached a deflector above where the speaker pod will go so hopefully . it will deflect the water to the bottom of the door. Again huge thanks to everyone as always nice people with good information, the RR forum I was using had a couple of total idiots that just came up with sarcastic s**t, thankfully there were also good knowledgeable guys on it as well but it usually ended up in a slanging contest with the idiot. It's very true what you say about "other" cars I bought a Dacia Sandero as a work hack it just keeps going and never goes wrong although it's not very exciting. I will keep you posted on my progress.

I had this problem too. On mine the water was coming in to the front footwell through the conical rubber grommet used for the indicator repeater wire, and because the rear footwells are lower than the fronts the water collects there. I fixed it by retaping the grommet to the wire and also with a splodge of silicon sealant inside the grommet. I also angled the wire to run uphill in the wheel arch to encourage the water to run off of the grommet.
