Always wanted an R8 I drove one of those well before I bought my monaro in 2008 . They weren’t long out and too pricey for me lol.

loved the look of the monaro better though ever since top gear done the beach episode.
They even just good too look at. Don’t think I’ll ever get bored of it! BUT starting to doubt I’ll ever buy a vxr8. Not because I don’t like them coz they still cool as f@&k. Jst because when I think about the money I’ve spent on my own car that hasn’t even hit 50,000 yet. And I only mean keeping it on the road and the hassle not driving it enough brings. Like corroding bits and seals and all that good stuff lol.

Would I be buying someone else’s problem then have to go through all the fixes and repairs I’ve already dealt with plus ( don’t know about anyone else) im finding it hard to gets parts.

Glad I got that off my chest. It’s just no one else understands and I don’t have any ozy muscle buddies close by weepingweepingweeping

Last wee bit was just for fun lol biglaugh

i have a ve maloo and a big boot cv8 , the cv8 is nicer to drive , it has more mods and i expect it may be slower than the maloo but still a nicer driving experience , the only thing to consider cv8 wise is changing brake and fuel lines more as a preventative measure than any thing else, as both cars are garaged

I forgot to mention the malloo ( class ) funny aswell as it’s basically commercial but would be my number one choice if I was buying a 2 seater sports car lol.

Brakes always an issue and hopefully I’m on my fourth and final setup. AP’s fitted last year. Defo makes my cv8 ( small boot ) more enjoyable. And getting it garaged this year is a job on the to do list.

I’ve had my monaro since 2008 too.

Purchased a vxr8 about 5yrs ago which I owned for 2yrs, great car but just didn’t have that monaro esk.

Had I purchased the r8 first I would have kept it but there’s something about the monaro I couldn’t let it go, intention was to sell the monaro and put the money into the r8 but ended up putting the money back in the bank, was good as I only lost £50 in the ownership period, not including insurance etc.

Yes getting Monaro specific parts is now challenging, specifically the trims. All the drivetrain and mechanically parts are readily available thankfully and would imagine that won't change soon.

You can still get parts in Oz is you look up vt / vy / vy. Most of the parts are the same for trim and garnish, just costly to import.

OP - In Aus I have a 4 door vy calais as a family car, it’s an auto LS1 with essentially same interior as the vz based monaro’s, minus the battery and oil temp cluster. Great car for hauling the family, towing trailers and long drives. Will not part with it.

A part from oz came up on my eBay today.
A vcm alloy otr cold air intake. Good price at £218 not including postage but that was only £18 extra.
I though it looked like it had too much depth to sit where it’s supposed to go but they must know because it’s meant for v2 vz ls1 Monaro’s.
Don’t know if anyone’s reviewed this yet.

Driveline virtually everything. The car was sold out there under the pontiac GTO label so places like rockauto stock most things. Plus plenty of upgrade options around still.
