Anyone got any fun winter plans for their cars?

The Ute will just be used, plan to stick some Michelin Cross Climates on the 17" wheels, I have some lowering springs to put on but will see if I get around to that...

The Monaro is where the action is, 402ci forged stroker kit is on the way over, improved oil pump, ATI balancer, I've amassed all the bits I need for a bit of engine bay tidying (may keep this a bit of a secret until it's done hehe)

Planning to get the heads CNC'd so may see if I can acquire some bare ones from the US to get done and then shipped over, I know, get aftermarket ones, it's tempting but all my top end is together and works well and CNC'd 243s are still much cheaper than aftermarket heads... Plus if I get a second set the current ones can go on the Ute at some point...

It should be one of the more potent NA Monaros in the UK, happy with the 255 rears as I enjoy it being a bit of an animal hehe

Anyway, what are you lot up to?

Saving up for my spigot bearing job and praying my box isn't goosed!laugh
Otherwise its stay put in the garage!
Are the 255's on standard rims? If so any rubbing/clearances issues at all?

Awesome plans you have! Would love to stroke my 5.7 to 6.3, decent cam, heads and new intake manifold.

255/35s are fine, no clearance or rubbing at all on standard wheels.

You can go wider at the back if wheel offset is right, but the standard wheels are only 8.5" wide so you can't put a tyre bigger than 255 on there.

Good to know. Thank you.
Was absolutely sure the standard wheels are only 8" wide though, even the 19's ???

I think they're all 8.5j, certainly nobody has had any issues fitting 255s on and this website would at least suggest that that wouldn't work well on an 8j rim.

https://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk/tyre-equivale...

I've always stuck with 35 profile tyres even on the 255s, it's only mm different in diameter so has a negligible impact on speedo accuracy etc.

In winter plan news, my "might as well whilst I'm in there" list continues to grow hehe

Patch repairs and paint to my rusted sills(holes where sideskirts have trapped water), and fresh paint on front bumper and the new glassfibre wings. Also new projector lamps, to freshen the front end. I went for the fibreglass because ,
1. original wings had started to rust on the rear edge of the arch, so pointless painting them.
2.genuine wings are stupid money,
3. only n/s pattern wings available, no o/s
4. glassfibre wont rust.

They arrived in a week ,and fit up as well as can be expected.

Then keep slagging it.

In the interests of accuracy only, (not being a smart arse! laugh ) and for any newbies making searches, I have been going through loads of old threads and the answer is 8 inches wide both on the 18" CV8 and 19" VXR wheel.

Change oil and spark plugs and look forward to those DRY crisp winter mornings when i can wrap up and drop the window. Roads down here get a lot quiter from end of oct driving

Sill covers really are easy and you do need to get behind them to treat, just a little bit of bonding behind the rear of the skirt which when you have taken out all fixings you have to be brave and pull.

I have had several attempts at the rear bumper and failed maybe someone could post a step by step guide with pictures please!!!

FI interchiller with Stewart EMP intercooler pump. Should add another 50whp in summer.

Driveshafts need new CV joints (can’t imagine why) smile

Ahh cool, glad you dug up the correct info, I don't know why I was so sure they were 8.5! beer

Wormus, what driveshafts are you using? Although I have one BMR shaft that's thicker to try and curtail axle tramp I can still get it occasionally (has to be wet as well it seems) so just wondered what you use (aside from racelogic to stop them spinning in the first place hehe)

RE: halfshafts - I used the G-force ones on my old Monaro, but had the CV joints replaced for quality items. They worked well.

Re: winter - finally fitting coilovers to replace my knackered oem kit... & then just enjoy the reduced traction that cold, damp mornings bring biggrin

GForce ones, no axle tramp but the joints are past their best and known to be a bit crap. I think others have upgraded them with Porsche ones?

Yeah I think Porsche ones were used by monkfish, Janosh, got a part number or anything for the ones you used?

Is it a do at home job replacing the CVs or do you need some sort of special tool?

Monkfish did mine, I believe they used the Porsche spec UJ’s but I don’t have the part numbers... not cheap but a big improvement.

Looked like a simple vice and hammer job to swap them out.
