Hi guys been a long time lurker on this forum, but surprisingly have never seen a thread on insuring one, can anyone point me in the right direction, maybe some of you use your cars in a similar way:>
It will be used as a Holiday/Summer weekend car, I also own a regular everyday tintop with full NCB and a clean licence, and a 1970 Lotus7 [for which classic insurance is very cheap on an agreed value limited mileage policy of 5K miles/year] - Monaro would be garaged.
>
Is it possible to insure the Monaro in a similar way to the Lotus [though I appreciate it wouldn't be old enough to get a Pukka classic insurance policy], can anyone recommend a suitable Insurance broker/company, and how much do you reckon it'll cost me for say 5k miles/year fully comp ins? I'm 60 years old and live in a low risk 'rural' area - ' Mid Wales'

There’s a list of Monaro friendly (including modified) in the FAQ’s at the top of the page, they can do limited mileage etc so have a ring around. I’ll think you’ll be pleasantly surprised how cheap they can be to insure

I'm insured with Admiral on a multi-car policy. Very reasonable, the Monaro VXR portion is under £300, limited miles 3000 per year. I'm 39, full NCB, low risk postcode.
Otherwise try Flux. And the good old comparison sites.

Believe it or not I got a decent quote on the meerkat site through Esure.

Mine is highly modified/supercharged and I got the renewal through yesterday. £350 from Adrian Flux, that’s with agreed value should something happen to it.

To expand on my last comment I am paying £420 for 6000 miles including commuting, car parked on the driveway, 47 year old full NCB, exhaust and air intake mods. This was Esure, and I'm almost definite if I'd tried harder (ringing around and giving the same info over and over) I'd have got it £75-100 cheaper.

Good luck, although you won't need any getting it down from £800.

I’m paying less than £300pa on a multi-policy with Aviva, 7 year NCB on an international licence with 4000miles pa limit for my VXR Monaro and breakdown recovery.

Shop around you should get a better deal.

I'm paying 420. 6k miles. Many many mods all declared, parked on drive and agrees value I'm 47 with brentacre. They also insure my American pick up

Amazed at the difference in £'s and whether of not they'd offer cover,
Some companies wanted me to own the car for a year before they'd consisder cover.
Got my quote down to around £1/day includng 6K miles & full breakdown cover, all I need now is to find a decent car, seems quite a few well overpriced sheds out there, with owners not being realistic on price - checkout Ebay completed listings - Only 1 car sold this yearsmile

How many have you viewed?
When I bought my first, I viewed a few and the cheapest turned out to be the nicest. Was a private sale though.
My second and current Monaro I viewed once, then went to see another which was slightly better, but not by the £3k difference, then went back and bought it.
It came with a few issues, has taken me a year, but its pretty much back to full health now.

I'd prefer a private sale - dealers ain't for me.
Most private sales seem to ask dealer prices +£2K

Anyone know of a decent/honest car for sale - don't mind a few jobs it means I get to know the car quickersmile

Depends on how desperate they are to sell. Supply vs Demand and all that.

All the good ones are remaining with their owners.

Mine is on a journey to being good (my standard of good) but it's staying in my ownership.

I’d looked for almost a year for my Monaro as I was searching for one that had a few owners and been with the most recent one for while - figure that’s a good sign of being cared for. Plus I only wanted red.

There are a few in auto trader that meet that description at the moment, if you can get one for the right price
