Got the Monaro out today
Discussion
I haven’t posted on here for a while but today I got the Monaro out. I gave it a wash, checked the fluid levels and filled it with petrol for the first time in a couple of months as I’m off to Santa Pod tomorrow to watch my uncle race his car at Dragstalgia. I’d forgotten what it felt like to drive and how strongly a cammed V8 pulls on full throttle, and how good it sounds. The burble at tick over and the popping and farting on the over run, I’ve been so busy with work lately I’ve not had the time to use it so it’ll be good to give it a long run up to Northamptonshire to blow the cobwebs out. After spending a day watching top fuel cars run it’ll sound like a pussycat in comparison when it’s time to come home but it’ll be good to have a day out in it after so long not using it.
Here’s a cut and paste of the spec sheet.......
Over the Rad Cold Air Intake (OTRCAI)
MAF delete
FAST 102mm throttle body
FAST LSXR 102mm inlet manifold with FAST fuel rails & LS3 injectors
Monkfish 'Magic 2' cam.
Livernois 243 (LS2) CNC machined heads
Holley valve covers
PAC 1219X springs
LS7 lifters
VPR catch can
Melling Oil Pump
LS2 timing chain & LS2 damper on adapter bracket
Hinson engine & transmission mounts
Baffled sump & improved crank scraper
Mishimoto radiator
AAS 'medium length' headers & Infinity X pipe
De-cat pipes
Full Wortec S/S Cat back
Lowered on Pedders shocks & springs
Pedders poly bushed all round
3.91 Truetrac LSD
LS7 clutch with remote bleed
BMR skid plate
VXR brakes with braided hoses front & back
6 speed T56 gearbox with quick shift
Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres all round
This is my second one built to this spec, the first one made 486fwhp 396rwhp on Surrey Rolling Road, I’ve not had this one on a rolling road yet

Don't go there....it's like the gorgeous blonde it's going to cost you a fortune....
If it’s got tits or tyres it’s going to be expensive!I’ve got bills for £12500 for everything, but the engine (heads, cam, springs, lifters etc) and clutch were about £4500 just in parts then there’s the mapping, exhaust, suspension....the list goes on.
The car performed faultlessly today, it pulled strongly right up to the 6750 rev limiter, spinning the wheels through the first 4 gears and pushing me back into the seat right up into 6th, and it even managed 20mpg average! I really must try and use it more often.
The racing at the pod was good too, plenty of side by side 10’s in the gasser class and 8’s in the outlaw anglia class. The top fuel funny car cannonball final was won with a high 6 but the best my uncle could manage was a 7.66 at 194.5mph

That’s what I’m hoping for.
As I’ve said the last one I built to this spec made 486.2 fwhp to be exact, and the same bloke who mapped the first one has mapped this one, Paul from Wortec, and he says from his read outs on his laptop whilst mapping the new one he thinks it’s making more power. Theoretically it’s a tighter, lower mileage engine than the last one so that should help, and my first one didn’t have the OTRCAI so that should/could help too. Only one way to find out...........looks like I need to book a power run at Surrey Rolling Road
