A couple of week ago the seemingly inevitable happened and my 04 CV8 became incontinent of coolant. Typically this was just before the MOT was due to expire.

My 15 year old rad had split and, having read around on here, that's a not too uncommon thing now these cars are getting on.

All sorted now thanks to WP bit it got me wondering how many Monaro's out there still have the radiator they left the factory with? Did mine last better or worse than average?

Mine was changed about 2 years ago on an 04 cv8 ,about 65k miles or so , it’s common to all cars due to plastic construction , mishimoto do metal ones but mixed reviews and on my scooby i had issues with the mishimoto ones

I'd say yours has lasted well. The original rad on my 04 CV8 expired a week after I got the car some 7 1/2 years ago and on 40k (split end tank like most) ! Alloys rad weren't available off the shelf back then so had to fit a new OE one. When the time comes for a 3rd it'll be an alloy one.

Mine is still on the original radiator, I fact next week I'll be changing the coolant as its now due.
Obviously now I've mentioned it the damn thing will spilt open once the new coolant has been added.
Still it's all character building stuff.....apparently.

My 06 CV8 is on it's original radiator. I'm panicking now as it's clearly going to spew it's coolant down the road very soon now. frown

Mine just gave a bit and was still ok for a while , but i changed it as soon as it started to leak , the 04 cv8 i would trust the mishimoto one the 05 due to different cap im more 50/50 , it may even solve the cap issues ? , the general work on mishimoto rads is good ie the main core and larger pipes in and out , the smaller joints tend to be the issues with quality

I'm on my second in 7 years ( 04 Cv8 ), no idea if the rad in there was original when I bought it.

Get on eBay now, they have a deal; 20% off a number of dealers, Demon Tweeks being one. It'll take the price of the Mishimoto rad down from £340 to about £270. Code is PURE20.

I have one and I'm happy with it.

Apart from OE and Mishimoto I wonder what other options are available, I'm going to take a wild guess and say " feck all", but you never know....

Dec 04 built 6.0 VXR still on its original radiator here, 65,000 miles.

Just replaced the coolant as part of a cam swap, doesn't look to be leaking or anything...

Other than the minor annoyance of draining it it is at least a very easy swap, so not too fussed as and when it does go.

Also curious to know if there are any other options other than Mishimoto just because of the few quality question marks that have been raised, but then I suppose there have been a lot more question marks raised about the OEM ones given they all seem to fail eventually hehe

Swapped my original radiator out for a Mishimoto a couple of months back. Original was on 60k miles, no leaks but well past it’s best.
I picked the Mishimoto up on Amazon for about £230.

I did a fair bit of research into the Mishimoto quality issues and found there to be a lot more happy customers than unhappy ones.

Plus, to give them their dues, their lifetime warranty/customer service seems pretty bulletproof too.

My car has only done 50 miles since the Mishimoto was fitted but seems fine so far.
Haven't noticed any reduction in running temp but when in traffic and the fan kicks in, temp seems to drop much quicker than before.

I started looking into the Mishimoto but ended up with an OEM radiator as that's what Walkinshaw's had in stock. The car's my daily and I needed it back on the road ASAP.

I figure if the original lasted 15 years and 65K+ miles this will hopefully be the only radiator I'll need to buy. That's probably jinxed it now...

Just bit the bullet and grabbed one at 20% off.....thanks.

Do these still carry the rad cap issue? I assume the std fan is still ok with it all?

If you are talking Mishimoto, they have their own rad cap, they are about £20 for a spare and mine hasn't gone tits yet. Std fan is fine.

I have the mishimotto radiator, I am supercharged since changing my engine temperature is up when I am on boost, I am putting this down to removal of the air defleters to allow for install,.

I am going to re-enter install the original and report back.
