I’m in the process of replacing all the hard brake lines on my CV8 Monaro and the Russell brake hose set I’ve got doesn’t seem to fit. The front hoses seem too short and are really stretched if I follow the same route as the originals. The only way round I can see is to invert the connection to the hard line at the bracket so the flexi comes up from the bottom instead of the top. Any pointers much appreciated

Remember the suspension is extended with the wheel off. There's plenty of slack at driving position. A pic of a Pontiac GTO Russell braided line on my '05 CV8 with wheel on the road.
(Thumb snap has turned the pic through 90 degrees)

Yeah mine are clearly too short. Even after putting a jack under the arm and bringing it back up to the right height the hose is still pretty tight. Until I can source a replacement (and so I can get it through it’s MOT I’m thinking it should be possible to extend the hose, something like this-

Thoughts? Obviously only a temporary measure.

I have just checked my old Monkfish receipts for a part number of the Hose kit I fitted to my Monaro in 2010.
Sadly there is only a Monkfish stock item number which isn't any use. The description states, braided set of six for Monaro inc AP kit.
At the time I fitted them I had the standard 05 spec brakes. The hose kit is still on the car and matched up perfectly with the new AP's fitted last year. Having said that there is not much slack in the actual hose length but they fit OK.
As the post shows a photo of the 04 spec brakes which are smaller than the 05 spec cars, I'm wondering if there are two seperate kits for these cars, and the 04 models need the longer hose kit?

Just saying, are those temporary BMW flexi's threads compatible?

I would have a word with the MOT tester before you go to the trouble of modifying any brake hoses.
A phone call can't hurt, whereas spending several hours working on your car only to have it fail the MOT is pretty much going to send you into a melt down.

Most brakes these days are M10x1.0 so good chance parts can swap. Although various lengths, thread depths and tapers can be used for various ends.

Unless the hose fits as per OE....it is wrong. And an awful lot of aftermarket kits are simply just wrong or very poor fit.

Been back to it today, it seems once the hub is up at the right height the hose isn’t too tight as long as I don’t put the round plastic retainer into the strut. So, as far as the mot goes it’ll be fine as long as I cable tie it or similar to keep it from fouling the suspension or tyre. That’ll get me roadworthy again while I wait for the right hose.
Thanks all for the pointers, great advice as always.

There are 2 part numbers for the russell brake lines, 692310 for 2004 built cars and 692320 for 2005 build. The 2005 cars had shorter front lines due to the caliper being larger.

Davep24. Brilliant info. I have the 692320 kit but my car is an 04! I’ll see if the fronts can be swapped for the 692310 kit from the supplier.

For confirmation, perfect fit front and rears for OEM brakes on my '05 CV8.

I note you have a '04.
CV8 or VXR?
