Looking to have this kit fitted to my Ro as the standard brakes are in need of some attention - new discs/pads etc.

Is it madness to spend ~£2k on the car for this upgrade given the age/value of these cars?
Thing is, I'm looking at around £7-800 for new standard sized discs n pads, another £200 to professionally refurbish the calipers. That's a lot less, but I still can't help think the AP kit is much better value?

Is it just man maths or am I right?
Just need some encouragement guys! laugh

Are you mad....probably...
If you want AP's and you are keeping the car for a while then just get them, I gave up trying to justify how much to spend on my car along time ago.
If I could afford things I got them, if not I saved up, it's taken me 12 years mind but there you go.
As for the AP's, I bought a new set last year, I put 1.5k miles on them, but I couldn't get away with the thick brake dust all over the place.
I have just bought a full set of Pedders sport Ryder ceramic pads which should sort that issue out. Hopefully my car will be on the road for July so I'll find out then.
Reading some of the old posts on this forum, people have suffered various things with AP's, rusty disc's and binding brake pads, this was mainly due to leaving the car outside without regular use or putting the car away in a garage when wet.
The main issue was thought to be warped disc's, but this turned out to be a build up of pad transfer material causing high spots on the disc's. Hopefully my new ceramic pads won't cause any issues like that. That was the major reason for getting the ceramic pads
I was lucky I managed to get the last set Walkinshaw's had at the time, give them a call to check their stock level.

Not sure what that has to do with AP's? I have 6 pot fronts and 4 pot rears and have never had any problems with them.

It was suggested some time ago that AP disc's suffered from corrosion due to their high iron content compared to the factory disc's. The DBA replacements on other hand not so much.

That's improved significantly, there was quite a long wait time last year even just for the parts. Good, but expensive, to know scratchchin

^^^ Not being fitted at WP, I'm booked in at AAS. They are a little closer, the route far more direct and a bit cheaper.

No surprise there.....people always seem to blame me when it hits the fan!!!!

Stuart at AAS know me quite well, but don't mention it as they might put the price up....
Don't forget to consider some stainless steel braided hoses at some stage, I've got the Russell ones on mine. These are not really necessary on a Monaro according to AP, but I did it anyway.
They also do a small stainless steel braided petrol pipe, which replaces the flexi rubber pipe between the fuel rails and the metal hard line at the rear of the engine. This is located on the passenger side of the car under the plastic engine cover.
Some Monaros have caught fire when the engine cover rubs through the rubber pipe and sprays high pressure fuel all over the place, so that's worth looking at as well.

Right I've spent enough of your money for today........keep us all updated with the job.

Regards John

^^^ Thanks for the advice, I've opted for the braided hoses as well.
The flexi petrol hose is a very good shout!

Mmm, AP brakes are on my wish list. Things keep going on the car that needs fixing before I can spend money on upgrades.

My 04 CV8 is still on the stock brakes but I recently had Pedders rear discs and pads (Sport Ryder up-rated ones). After a few hundred miles I'm pleased with them. Will have Pedders on the front when they need changing.

Let us know what you make of the APs. I'm looking at that as a job for next year.

To those that have had the AP's fitted, what happens to the metal disc guards that sits behind the discs?

They are pop riveted on, ( I think? ) drill them out and remove the shields you won't need them with AP brakes.
If no one else on here can confirm this I will check on my car, however it will be a week or so before I can actually look.

Hmmm. Maybe the rear discs aren't any bigger than the standard ones. Would have thought the shields would need at least bending if not removing.
Guess I'll find out next week!

Nope the discs are way bigger than the shield, nothing is bent away from the disc. Unfortunately I can't take the wheel off and send you a photo of the set up as I have a shoulder injury and my car is lowered, so it's feet up only for me at the moment!!!!!!
