As per my other thread, I am a new Holden Ute owner here with the LS1 engine, here is my first question of probably many hehe

The car has a really dodgy / crap induction setup that needs replacing, but I am not sure what should be there and what is best to replace it with.

Here's a pic:

I think that's the MAF sensor nearest the air filter, but there's another unit with 'idle' control nearer the engine, plus other junk as you can see.

The over the radiator induction kits look good, but am unsure what I need and what's available in the UK, or if I should just order from ebay Australia?

Any help appreciated smile

Not sure if there will be many upgrades for you in the U.K , the best place would be Oz also it'll be worth trying the U.S. The LS1 GTO forum is also a good place for knowledge, the U.S like modifying there GTO's (Monaro's).
My ute is running a VCM air filter box, but it has a bit different setup as it is
maf-less and supercharged, checkout VCM's website.

Maybe try and get a stock UK Monaro airbox in there first then go about the modified version.
MAF to Throttle Body pipe could be changed over to something else, either the HSV GTS 300kw pipe (involves turning one of the stock rubber connectors inside out) or the HSV 285kw VY pipe or there are aftermarket pipes to. The Monaro shroud into the airbox can be modified with a second hole cut into it.

Monaro intake would involve, a shroud, an airbox top and bottom, MAF to throttle body pipe plus a panel filter.

Where is the temperature sensor on the picture? Is it in the second bit of metal? I think on that particular vehicle it was in the top of the airbox.
They moved it on the later cars into the MAF to throttle body pipe. Looks like the temperature sensors are not too expensive on rockauto if it needs another one.

OTR will probably involve removing the MAF and then a tune would be needed.

I'd suggest having a look at Oz ebay - there are loads on there both stock bits and OTRs etc.

Mine (VY) looks like this, it has had the MAF deleted though.

I've no idea what the idle control unit is - I suspect the difficulty would be getting it and the MAF between the OTR and the intake. An aftermarket set up should accommodate it though.

Returning the car to a stock Monaro LS1 setup is a great idea, even if only temporary.
Give one of the well known breakers a shout.

Brett or Gary their names are.

I can PM contact details if required.

I suspect that thing is something to do with an old LPG set up perhaps ????

I didn't like the over radiator job, as I do a lot of town work and found the heat soak from the radiator to be an issue. ,kept seeing overly high intake air temps.

Thanks guys that is great information! I did some googling last night and ended up ordering a VCM over the radiator intake from Australia, retaining the MAF to make things a bit easier.

Good shout on the potential LPG gubbins as well, I noticed an old LPG controller under the steering wheel so that may well be what it is.

Any info on breakers would also be appreciated, as there are a few other bits around the car that could do with replacing as well (steering wheel among them)

I am very much looking forward to getting the engine bay really nicely tidied up!
