Looking for suggestions on what intake manifold to use on my 5.7 LS1 that currently has the stock LS1 style intake manifold?

Not looking for anything outrageous. I know in years past the LS6 intake was a popular swap, is there an alternative to consider that won't break the bank?

Vehicle is n/a and unlikely to be boosted, more than likely on bolt on mods and a cam. So looking for something to help perk it up.

Anyone got any used intakes lying around they don't want a lot of money for?

As I recall, the LS1 intake isn't too bad, although as you say the LS6 is better.

if doing bolt ons and cam I assume you aren't changing the heads, if you do and (budget consciously) go for LS2 heads, factor in an intake manifold for that, as the stock LS2 one is atrocious (the worst of all of the LS OEM manifolds)

You'll be better off spending the manifold money on the cam upgrade (stiffer pushrods, valvesprings etc.), you'll pick up a decent amount and that may be 'enough' for your goals with the stock manifold still in place...

Thanks.

TBH I'd probably fit another LS6 intake manifold if I could find one at a good price. They seem hard to find in the UK.

On my blue z28 I fitted an LS6 manifold, but my current green z28 is still stock LS1.

Plan is slightly better intake manifold, long tube headers, already got air/filter airbox sorted and catback exhaust. Plus a cam on stock heads and some nice 4.10:1 final drive gears.

It likely won't be winning any dyno days, but should make some healthy numbers to the road and with the cam and short final drive should make for a peppy and engaging car on British B roads.

Suspension and brakes are already sorted too.

I was under the impression that a UK LS1 Monaro had the LS6 intake fitted as standard, it was only the early versions of the LS 1 which had the less efficient intake.
The Fast intake was well regarded, but at around 1K that's expensive for 20HP.
Heads and cam is where I would spend my money first, then the intake. Mind you if I even mention spending anymore money on my car I'll be in some serious bother.

Ta, the car isn't a Monaro, but I know this part of the forum has a lot of LS knowledge. It's a 1999 Camaro z28. But uses the 5.7 LS1, however it does indeed have the early LS1 type intake manifold.

I swapped an LS6 manifold onto my last one and looking for options with this one. I won't be spending £1k on an intake though, that's too rich for my tastes.

This link is worth a read, they outline most of the common ones on a similar set up to what your looking to achieve.

I have ported ls2/6 heads and a cam on my ls1, with an ls6 inlet and tb, and it works well imo.

VCM don't do an OTR for the Monaro, but there are some available, the ones I've heard the most about are the SvedeSpeed (US) and X-air (NZ).

Both have good feedback, the SvedeSpeed has been going for ages, X-Air started a little later, but I'd say looks to be a better part, larger filter area and a shroud is available too.

I believe both can be installed with or without the MAF, the SvedeSpeed definitely can, I imagine the X-Air it'd be an option too, it's just some silicon hose.

If staying n/a, then realistically the likes of FAST, MSD etc are the best options.
