Had some ap racing brakes fitted on my cv8. Their great

When I think of all the money I’ve spent on other discs and pads and getting my original callipers overhauled I could kick myself.

Only problem is after maybe an hour of driving I’m pretty sure my rear passenger side brake shoe is playing up for some reason.
The only time I notice is when I’m parking up and moving at slow speeds. its not an issue when your driving even at normal 30mph stuff.
Originally I thought it was the diff and put the friction modifier in but no difference what so ever.
The noise is hard to describe but not as clunky as the diff noise. It’s more like a springy grinding tension sound and only from the rear left hand side. Does this sound like an ap racing thing or have got other probs ?

Always got to be something with these babies even after you’ve spent a fortune 🤣

I'm not sure if it applies, but I know sometimes when aftermarket bigger brakes are fitted to a car, the dirt guards that sit on the insides of the discs are often grinded off or in some cases simply bent back to allow the bigger disc to be fitted.
I wonder if the latter is the case on your car and if this guard is just catching slightly making this noise?

Did you get the AP kit new and if so where from and how long did you have to wait?

Thanks for the suggestion it’s worth having a look at.

I was lucky and knew a guy who knew a guy who happened to be breaking a supercharged vxr.

Got a good few bits n pieces. lot of the stuff was small parts that I was struggling to get elsewhere but did manage to get the brakes and exhaust Not the supercharger though. Gutted lol.

I would check the caliper mounting bolts for tightness then remove the brake pads and make sure that everything is clean. Then re-seat the pads and retaining pins.
You could also clean both rear wheels and see if the suspect side gets covered in brake dust more than the other, just to eliminate the possibility of a sticking pad or piston.
Maybe there is something loose in the the handbrake assembly?

One of my rears rub (AP kit on a monaro VXR). Roger said it could be a bit of imperfection in the pistons so that it doesn't drop back after braking and thus binds a tiny amount (just applying the brake stops it). It goes when I put new pads in until it wears to the imperfection again, being the rears this isn't very often (pad change). I have the DBAs to go on (when I find time) so will report back. I already have replaced the fronts (as the APs were corroded badly, as I don't do the miles to clean them up). The DBAs are a vast improvement for me in that regard.

I don't have APs so this may not be relevant but I'm going to assume the handbrake assembly remains the same?

I replaced my rear discs the other week and the passenger side disc was thoroughly wedged to the handbrake shoe inside. A vast amount of hammering eventually removed it, shoe eventually popped back in place and new disc went on (still slightly stiffer than the driver's side which slid off and on with no resistance at all)

I never use my handbrake as I just leave the car in gear, so I was a little surprised to find it wedged to the inside of the disc. Anyway, upon initial drive there was no problem, at the end of the first (enthusiastic) drive it was catching slightly as there was a metallic rubbing sound once per rotation, but this has stopped now.

I have put the handbrake on and off a few times to see if it got stuck again so perhaps it just needed a bit of movement back and forth to have freed it up, or it has just clearanced itself hehe

Thanks very much for all the reply’s I think it’s relevant till I get a chance see what’s going on. If it was the handbrake assembly which was kinda thinking. Is that easy enough to get from the suppliers of they brakes.

They were prob the worst brakes for me to get my hands on  because I work away from home a lot so I’ll prob be looking forward to some heavy corrosion on my discs soon enough.

Got to be something out there to protect them when it’s not in use. Without havin to empty the garage. That’s too much like hard work when yi wanti go out and play lol
