Hi, Went to start the MonaroVXR LS2, dash lights up but there is no power to starter when key turned.

Checked fuses all OK.

So I thought it may be the Imobilizer preventing the starter to work.

I did the following

1 Disconnected battery for a few minuts, then reconnected.
2 put key in lock and locked driver door to deadlock position, then unlocked, followed by locking with key again.
3 used remote fob to open door, put key in ignition and turned key, hey presto engine starts.

Now starts all the time again.

So handy to know above procedure, and keep it written down on piece of paper and keep in wallet.

What I want to know is why did the fault happen when day before it worked a treat?

Any ideas.

Ade,

From past experience after market immobilisers can be more trouble than they are worth.
As you have checked all the fuses and wiring connections, and the car started after your reboot procedure it could be anything from a one off glitch or even an electronic component starting to fail.
If it's an old system it might be time to have it proffesionaly checked over and possibly replaced.
Trying to sort that problem out at the road side doesn't bare thinking about, so If your car is garaged and you don't need an additional alarm system for insurance purposes maybe remove it all entirely and rely on the standard system.

Hi John, the car is only fitted with standard alarm that was put in all Monaros, so there is no issue with a second alarm system.

Had it with other cars where it's been a very poor connection on battery positive terminal...

Did you happen to notice if the immobiliser light had gone out when you had the non-start problem? I wonder if the key had lost sync with the car.
Did you think to try the spare key?

Hi I had a similar problem with my gsi Carlton years ago it turned out to be the ignition barrel, at the end of the barrel there was a white plastic thick disc with connections around it and as you turned the key it would make contact with these - the fault lay in the last one which as you know is the connection to start the car. So it showed all the symptoms of starter motor failure as when you turned the key it did everything you would expect with the ignition apart from start, it initially was sparadic but got worse over time. I only found out about this by accident as I was talking to a police mechanic who dealt with Vauxhall’s cars.hope this may help GM may still use these components it’s worth a look anyway

No I did not check or notice if immobiliser light had gone out, something to remember next time.

I did try spare key same results.

I have just had a thought that I tried on the day it would not start, and that was to make sure clutch pedal was fully down, as this gives same symtoms, mine was fully down.
