Whilst my Ro is off the road, I have a few jobs to do on it. One of them is to take the front bumper off and repainting all of the grill mesh in some new black paint.

Does anyone know how to get the front bumper off? I haven't really had chance to see what's involved, so thought I'd post up here to see what exactly is involved and any top tips. thumbup

May be 4 screws along the top and then 2 or 3 in each wheel arch where it wraps around.

Once unscrewed, you need to sort of pull the bumper slightly outwards to sort of unwrap it from the arches, 2 people is ideal as it's a bit of a clumsy piece

There might be a couple of screws behind the number plate. Don't forget to put a sheet on the ground to catch the bumper when it drops on to the ground. And try not to snap any of the clips when you pull the bumper out from the wing....like I did!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes good point, there's some screws on the underside too that clip to a pair of metal brackets!

Also, be careful of the fog lights as they're in the bumper but connected to the car wink

I struggled with my CV8 bumper but found it was literally 4 screws in the wheel arch, 3 along the top of the grill and that was it, took a hard tug to release it from the bumper bar. Undo the screws and pull outwards from the wheel arches, it should then pull forwards with a good yank

don’t forget to have some thing soft nearby for it to go onto once you take it off as you don’t want it damaged

Has anybody removed their front and rear bumper to find a white polystyrene insert that sits flush against the crash bar? I didn't but I'm led to believe that they should be fitted?

Rather than paint the crap grill why dont you get some honey comb plastic that maches as near as possible the plastic grill in the snort on bonnet. I think the stuff I got was similar to what Range Rover uses, sorry cannot be more helpfull than that. there will be some thing on Ebay.

Better to fit it while bumper is off.

You won’t believe what the genuine grilles are selling for. Crazy given that it must be an off the shelf grille trimmed to shape.

Isn't that ridiculous. Once fitted there isn't a discernable difference to Halfords 'grille on a roll'!

Crazy can't even believe that is some sort of original part, I couldn't believe how badly and cheaply the grills were fitted when I first removed my bumper many years ago hardly factory standard.
Like many bought sheet grill of eBay and replaced screws at same time, everything on the front bumper in my view is awfull quality wise really let's the car down.

Good ideas guys. Yes I will more than likely fit some new stuff rather than trying to repair the crap original stuff. Was tempted to go stainless steel but might look too shiny and out of character

I can see the attraction of stainless steel, but I think the shiny effect might look a bit like a Chrysler 300, or worse a Bentley, which is not what you want on a Monaro. If you have any lying around you could mock it up and see how it looks, but you can't go wrong with standard black.

I will absolutely be sticking with black. Has anyone else done this with aftermarket stuff and did you just trim the new stuff using the existing as a template?

I have done this it's a dead easy job, you will see this when you remove bumper, the mesh is secured by tiny screws they will be rusted, replaced mine with stainless.

Buy a good quality black mesh from Ebay lots on there I also used the same to replace the mesh on side skirts.
