10 years of Monaro
Discussion
It's been 10 years to the day since I picked up my Monaro and I'm still loving it! It is my only car but I work from home, in that time I've spent £16k on fuel, £4k on insurance and £17k on looking after it. Yes, my eyes have wandered towards other cars, but nothing has caught my attention enough to replace her. Long live the Monaro!
Ive had mine 11yrs, and yes I've thought about selling up and getting something else. The only car I could replace it with would be a Mustang.
I work out how much I've spent on the Monaro....( oh dear ) ...factor in what I could sell it for, and the cost of a used Mustang...then work out how much would I spend on upgrades.....( certainly not as much as the Monaro ) and finally work out the depreciation on a Mustang.....
The bottom line is it would be crazy to sell, so the Monaro stays.......I suppose if I stop wasting money on it, and the fact the depreciation has long since finished on these cars it sort of makes sense to keep it,.....I think?

Had mine now just over 11 years, longest I have ever owned a car, it's not a daily driver and has always been sorned in the winter and garaged whilst in my ownership.
I have thought about selling over the years and have driven several cars as a potential replacement as a none daily, the only thing that comes close is a Porsche but the ownership and servicing cost are ridiculous.
I love the rs quattro stuff and also the BMW M cars but it is my opinion that they can only be driven and treated as daily driver's they just aren't special enough for that weekend drive, plus again ownership and servicing is simply stupid.
When I look at my Monaro it still looks as good to look at as the first day I bought it, plus when I drive it I still feel a sense of occasion.
These cars really are special and really do get under your skin, we should all feel privileged to own a good one as there can't be many left now.

I'm a relative newbie then, I won't hit 8 years until February
Planning to put a cam in over the winter once some domestic changes are finished.
Cam, springs, retainers, trunnion bearings for rocker arms and pushrods (fingers crossed the cam base circle is the same, it's supposed to be...) are all sat on the shelf ready and waiting
Never going to sell, have 'invested' far too much money in ruining the car over the years, and it was always intended to be a keeper, over a long enough period of time all those upgrades will work out as quite cheap 'per year', right?
Still makes me grin like a tt every time

I've had mine 13 1/2 years, new March 2005. It is now semi retired, an electric motor provides instant low speed torque rather than the V8 day to day...the Monaro just does occasional longer journeys.
Thought I would get a Mustang when they finally arrived but not so sure now. The price has gone up a lot and demand has held up. The last of the CV8 Monaros were just £25K.
