I was out today and all was going well until a got a load of warnings up on the dash, check alternator, engine temp too high, I was not too far from home so limped back, the belt that goes to the alternator and water pump has shredded taking the small hose that comes from the air filter snorkel and goes under the large plastic shroud on top of the engine I have no idea what it is for, hopefully a new belt and hose will fix the problem any ideas the best place to get these parts and what's it like to replace that belt it seems to go round a lot of pulleys. Thanks.

It's just a belt, any motor factors would have one.

Most likely 6PK2000 or thereabouts.

It drives the alternator, water pump, PAS....lets hope you didnt cook the engine !

The hose is a PCV hose that goes from the airbox to the driver's side head, if I understand your description right.

I do hope it's not cooked!!!!! Many thanks again guys for your help I will try our local motor factors first, and I will probably have some hose, now I know it's just a breather.

"hope it's not cooked" Is is my imagination or did I read the VXR8 has "camel mode" and will still drive with no coolant at all albeit with it very reduced power. Does the Monaro have the same ?

Or is my memory just playing tricks on me.

vxr8 has “camel mode “ monaro does not appear to have it , belt is easy to put on , it follows an order and won’t fit right if not put on right , photos can be found on line to help , if a local shop can’t do one then maybe a uk supplier or rock auto usa , walkinsaw bound to have some in stock , not having a lot of luck with your car but sounds very solveable

If I remember rightly, one end of my breather hose has a wider attachment on the end. I'll have to check tomorrow - I'm not sure if that means the bore is wider itself.

I ordered a belt from the UK today and also found a length of hose that fitted the breather, I really am not having much luck and what is even more annoying the belt was replaced in April when it went in for a service and has done less than 1k miles since.

that could mean nothing, or something.

A problem could have arisen with the belt drive that caused the failure, or they might have fitted the wrong belt, or a low quality belt ( although it'd probably be hard to get a belt that crap )

Is your crank pulley running true or wobbly , it may have thrown the belt , it’s a weird design that can fail , they are not too much from Rock auto if it is that

Yes I did think that there may be another issue causing the problem, I did check for any seized pulleys but all was good,i will recheck everything when new belt is fitted.

The plot thickens as I have just found a bit of the old belt which clearly says 6PK 1965 surely if it should be a 1995 the wrong belt has been fitted or am I missing the plot.

That suggests the shredded belt has been forced onto the pulleys and been running at an extreme tension etc.

My last belt was 6PK1965 and my current belt is pictured. I put it on myself and I can assure you it wasn't forced on - there is plenty of spare tension left on the tensioner.

I'm sure I read the LS1 is the longer 1995 belt.
