AP brakes for Monaro
Discussion
Ive just had Walkinshaw fit the AP kit to my CV8 for about £2300.00 fitted.
TBH, after all the hype I've read about APs, I'm very disappointed in them.
Around town in low speed braking they feel no different to my standard set up, they don't grab or feel that powerful. They are OK when braking from high speed though, especially when warmed up.
The Ferrodo pads do leave the wheels extremely dusty, but they are silent in operation, so no rumbles or squealing.
Next year I might change the pads for a set of Hawks, as they are supposed to perform very well when cold.

Are wilwood worth a look? They do kits for the GTO.
They are supposed to be quite good brakes, I just doubt they could be got cheaper than the AP kit.A quick scan reveals a price of $2900 + shipping & taxes.
£2300 for the AP kit is actually very good value when compared to the price of replacement standard parts. And its a proper upgrade.
The yanks put CTS-V 6 pot calipers on the GTOs. It looks like youd need something like this:-

Just another option.

I got AP's fitted a few years ago £2500 from monkfish if I remember right, I can only report from personal experience but the difference in my VXR was unbelievable it was so good. To be fair I never had an issue with my old brakes around town and slower speeds but they were scary at trying to slow down at higher speeds.
The Fish put mine on about 5 years ago , it was like night and day , old original brakes were fading really bad with minimal driver input even on yellow stuff ebc pads and discs were cracking , i was on the Isle of man mountain road and did an emergency stop to avoid sone ones poor driving wow what a difference
I put front cts-v 4 pot caliper on mine last year. Adaptor bracket was some 200mm x 30mm x 10mm aluminium bar and a couple of 10mm high spacers. Hub carriers needed a small amount of metal removing as did the caliper. I used 348mm bmw x5 discs as the offset wasn't as extreme as the Bonham customs setup.

Whilst a budget brand....HiSpec ?
IMO part of the problem with the AP's is the discs...race discs are not ideal for road use. And I've never really found AP's own pads to be that good, nor the Ferodos.
If anything something simple like an old Mintex 1144 would probably be better !

Or dont overlook simply fitting better pads to the factory discs.
The AP kit isnt a terrible price at £2300...because the AP stuff is just expensive in general...but the quality just doesnt seem there a lot of the time.
