I am looking at getting my wheels refurbed, I have had two quotes one on the island and he paints them or an off island company who powdercoats them, I want as near as possible to the factory silver finish, the prices are very similar apart from our expensive ferry fare to the UK. What will give the best finish. Thanks.

Hi i hope island life is all good , I’m sure either are very good , i think powder coating may be longer lasting , but i would assume that most car wheels on the road are just painted rather than powder coating

Life is good on the island thanks, I was leaning towards powder coating but wanted to ask your opinions so it looks like a trip across is in order.

Hi Stewart, hope all’s well. Powder coat is tougher but chips more easily. If you want the OEM look is go for painting but get them done properly off the car.

I’ve used Pristine for about 20 years for all mine and the results have always been superb.

Thanks guys and do like the look of vxkev's wheels, my mind was made up then wormus comes along and throws a spanner in the works😣. I get the feeling the local guy may not remove the tyres as he didn't really answer me when I asked and didn't seem that bothered about doing them but that is pretty normal for here. Is there a noticeable difference between the two finishes.

Isn’t just down to being Manx? Things get done eventually, just not when you want them to be smile

I can vouch for pristine who do an excellent mail order service. Problem with mobile refurb - great if you are selling the car but flakes off eventually or the first time you use a jet wash. I suspect you’ll regret it.

I might be over for a flying visit later this month on the boat. Let me know if you need some help.

Thanks Paul it was a garage that quoted me but like i said he was not over keen but said he would do it for £85+vat per wheel, it would be quite coslly to send them by carrier as it costs about £130 per pallet each way just for the ferry then have to get them to the wheel guy and back again, I suppose the joys of living on an island, I also got a quote from TWS in Chester who I have only heard good reports from 3 people I know who have used them, Andrea liked the idea of a bit of shopping in Chester now that's frightening.

There must be a body shop on IOM , have they quoted you ? it sounds like a lot less hard work plus car off the road for less time using an Iom body shop

Yes there is one and that is who quoted me for painting, my worry is when I asked if they did alloys because I saw it on their website I was told not really anymore it depends how bad they are, it's probably just me but I felt a bit wary, I just looked at a short notice ferry for a 2 day trip but at £336 That is not happening.

The guy who did mine charged me £275 for the 5 wheels and that was tyres off stripped, any marks polished out powder coated and tyres back on and balanced the whole wheel was coated even the inside if the tyre area, except the mounting face.

Hello Stuart, Give Ian Tunney a call at P.A.C.E he is in Union Mills he does sandblasting and powder coating and tyre removal 426775 tell him Dave sent you.
As I'm sure you know my name isn't Dave but he calls me that as I look like one apparently.
Or my mate Jock who has the place next door he will do a nice paint job if you need it doing and if you need the tyres removing I'm sure he will sort that out too. But tell him Andy sent you. Jock 222297
I'll pop in for a cupa sometime.

Hi Andy not seen you around recently, thanks for that I will make enquiries with them as that would be an easier and cheaper option. It would be good to catch up with you.

Well that I'll be a bit less hassle than getting the boat over and yes Ian should do a nice job too, he has done a few bits and bobs over the years for me.
I was playing the latest TT game on my mates PlayStation the other month and was disappointed to not see your Monaro next to your house , there was some generic blue car. I'll give you a shot next time I'm passing.

You are joking the monaro is part of Crosby I will sue the swines for that. I have never been good enough to get to our house on the game so I didn't know that. Catch up with you soon and thanks again. Stewart.

I agree your car is part of the furniture and every time I drive past I look to see if you are in!

See if the game has an option to ride an Indian/cruiser instead. Go more slowly = stay on longer. smile

Glad you got a good solution to your wheels.
