Hi all, at the end of June I picked up my CV8 from TCS in Oldham. Big place with lots of interesting cars for sale. Mine had been taken in trade from another garage and there was hardly any history but someone has looked after her. Bought with 114k, 2k done since then and the only issues I have are the standard diff clunk and an underbelly that needs a good scrub and rustproof. I'm also planning to make some new fuel lines, they look rough even though they weren't advised on the MOT.

Some early pics....

This was the day I picked her up

The car lived in the Edinburgh area for the last 6 years or so and is now with me in Monaro-saturated north Kent!

I've rented a garage (30 miles from my house, closest I could find one big enough without having to go on the game to pay for it) where I'll work on the cars and keep my future backup car. At the moment I still have my Vectra VXR which is up for sale on here and elsewhere, but the plan is to get something much smaller and cheaper as a second car and use the Monaro most days.

Well done on the purchase of a nice clean looking Monaro. Don't forget to keep updating us when you get stuck into any jobs that you carry out. There is quite a bit of info on these cars if click on the search button. If that still doesn't answer your query then post your question on here, however it's very quiet these days but some of us still look in. If you are on face book that might help as I believe some owners moved onto that.

Thanks, will have a look at the FB page.

I think the only mods are VXR brakes and a different back box, there's a Y-piece tailpipe that's different from the original. It's quiet at low revs but Chewbacca pipes up on acceleration! She pops a bit on deceleration as well. Haven't had the chance to crawl underneath yet but if I'm really lucky I'll find the clutch and slave have been sorted out for me. I'll do the gearbox and diff oils as well since I've no idea what's in there.

The place I bought it from took it to a Vauxhall dealer for a service, thinking they'd better go the extra mile because it's an unusual car. Vauxhall ordered the parts for a Movano of course.

This is the first time I've felt the need for a personalised plate. I remember VXM999 being a showplate for Vauxhalls back in the 80s in Which magazine and the like, and 500 is a tribute to the Monaro 1,2,3 and 4 at the 1968 Bathurst 500.

I used the Castrol Syntrax LSD oil and didn't need any friction modifier.

Heard good things about Syntrax, and Millers, and I've heard people say totally opposite things about the friction modifiers. I'm starting small and replacing the rubber mounts on the backbox first, which means scrubbing and painting the hanger, and while I'm under there I'll have a nose around and see what's what.

I've had Millers put in the diff recently and it's made such a difference. Quietened down substantially from the RP previously in there and feels better too

After search this forum hard, I read this stuff is supposed to be particularly good...

https://www.morrislubricantsonline.co.uk/lodexol-x...

From what I understand, the diff will knock after an oil change if there isn't enough FM added.
When I did mine first time, it knocked more than before the change until I added another dose of FM and my chosen oil at the time (Millers) claimed to contain a FM.
I will be trying the above with this new Monaro of mine. smile

Well, after a crawl underneath I can confirm the propshaft is very baggy and the rubber in the mount mount is about 50% gone. As suspected after the clonk tried to become an oscillation a couple of times in heavy traffic when engaging and disengaging drive. No worries, I've seen the infamous Aussie video of the dude belting it apart with a hammer. May invest in a bearing puller I suppose but am looking forward to the job.

There's no remote bleed and I syringed out some crud from the clutch fluid reservoir so I'm going to assume the clutch is original. Will be nice if it gives me a couple of months, pedal feels fine for now.

Looks like the PAS pipe issue has been and gone, everything under the fans looks to be in reasonable nick. And the plugs are the oe Delco ones, which I like, and they look pretty new.

So a couple of standard issues creeping up but in general she's happy. 400 miles on a tank has been achieved without breaking a sweat and traffic jams in baking heat haven't been a problem. No oil or coolant loss in the last 2000 miles and the back box no longer sways with the wind.

Sorry to butt in but I thought you might want to know that there's a meet at 007VXRs pub in Walderslade on 26th August. It will be in the morning and is in aid of Macmillan. If you're on Facebook, the link is https://www.facebook.com/events/269687937177497/

As above , today i change the diff oil to syntrax lsd 75w/140 , so much better plus no klonking , put in about 1.8 litres , easy job to do , and no traction issues of one wheel spinning , i put no friction modifier in , the RP i had before was not that old only changed last year , and had only been in there for around 2000 miles but was not working very well

Hi there not been on here for ages.

That might've been si's car he was from Edinburgh. ( capital by name only ) 😂😂

Last time I was on here I'm sure he was selling his and if it was his It would've been well looked after 👍🏻

Jst went on to look at the monkfish site today and gutted to find out they had closed. Don't know where I would've been without there help since I got my Monaro. What does every one do for parts now? And advice and the dream of one day making it down there with a fully loaded credit card to go mad with 🙈🙈

It's a shame monkfish have shut up shop, but Roger will still sell you Monaro bits through pedders.co.uk.

Have a look here if you've not seen the thread before for alternatives: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
