Looking for some advice please . . .
I've recently had an issue with over revving . . I get to 2000 revs and it was over revving up to 8000 then wouldn't change gear so had to pull over and turn the engine off and on to reset it. this fault then changed slightly as only over revved slightly but then carried on driving as normal,
As with this car it had to go to Vauxhall to have a diagnostic check, engine management light was intermittent but brake light was permanently on
They have come back with the following fault:-
Carry out tech 2 on engine several codes stored not present for crank sensor, fuel trim system and auto box pressure solenoid valves 2 and 5
Along side this fault, which I'm not sure is connected or not:-
No fluid level sensor but if wire earthed warning light still on all wiring comes from the instrument cluster
The quote for all this work is £2138.57
Basically they were telling me to part ex for another car and mine would go off for auction, which I find very hard to believe being the car it is,
Has anyone else had this issue and can offer any advice please?

Where abouts are you based? There are a few specialist garages scattered around the country that will probably know these cars better than any main Vauxhall dealer.

Wouldn't trust Vauxhall to know what they're talking about with these cars at all - and that's not being mean, very few of them were licensed to do anything with them in the first place, and especially with the Monaro's, most thought you were talking about a panel van. Would definitely seek out one of the specialists, and depending on where you are, South Coast, South East (Kent), Midlands and North covered.

MWP - Chester
Walkinshaw - Chipping Norton

Probably your nearest two - worth a chat to one or both of them with the symptoms, you have nothing to lose.

I’m thinking a different route as it can be easily done , try a new battery as they are known for issues when batteries are starting to go , check air filter is clean i got over revving on my monaro , k and n got dirty very quickly , re set codes , ebay do code readers for around 15£ and see what happens , if it’s still going wrong Walkinshaw are very good but a long time to see them unless they maybe just let you in for an in depth code read and diagnostic , option 2 go to Topcats much shorter waiting times and are very knowledgeable , plus you have AAS again very good

I find it hard to believe that your car was rev'ing to 8k unless it had had a lot of work.

As has been said, a battery that is on its last legs often throws up lots of codes. Also, if you disconnect the battery for 5 minutes it will reset the ECU.

I'd be getting a second opinion before doing anything. I assume the car is with Pentagon who are a VXR8 dealer?

I’m not sure of the age of your car , im assuming it has the engineering mode , from memory push left toggle as you turn ignition on , there are a few bits that come on battery voltage charge etc , when you put it on voltage and start it what’s the voltage dropping too , mine was going down to around 9.6 on cranking so it was changed , the batteries tend to go from working to dead very quickly and throw up lots of issues

Did you ever get the current codes and not permanent ones? If you have them please post them up.

Are you getting under load at 2k rpm or just cruising around? Get someone to take a look at the engine and see if it jumps quite a bit when you've got the transmission in D and brake pedal fully depressed and giving it some throttle.

If engine does lean to the side quite a bit it could be due to your engine mounts.

Definitely get a second opionion from one of the specialists mentioned above.

They’re simple cars but have their foibles!
