VXR8 Alternator Issue

Over the past 6 weeks I've some issues with what I believe is the alternator. Car turns over and starts normally and seems to charge normally for a few mins at around 14.4v then it drops off and starts fluctuating. On approx. 5 occasions the voltage has dropped to around 12v and its triggered the 'Alternator' warning message for a few seconds before returning to 14v.

This week its permanently dropping to 13v after a few mins driving. I'm consigned to the fact looking on here and similar experience it is more then likely the alternator. Whats the best place to get a replacement part and the potential cost? I'm close to Picador but is it cheaper to buy the part from somewhere and I can get my local mechanic to fit it?

They may accept it by post which i think they do , there is a place in borehamwood herts, it’s on Aycliffe road called Unit Exchange , they rebuilt mine for 80£ on my Fsti and they did my monaro one for 70£ , they had all the bits in stock and it was tested after they did it , a very good quick service it was about 24 hour turn around and much cheaper

That sounds the same as what happened to mine. The stator had corroded in one spot and expanded the metal and was shorting out occasionally. I bought new from Walkinshaw. Can't remember price but not cheap, this was for 2007 VXR8.

My local repair man took one look at it and said that is not from a UK car. He stripped it down and found the fault but was unable to locate spare parts hence why I bought new in the end.
