So my 6.0 Monaro has had the check engine light coming on randomly but always after a drive and when I've just stopped I.e. to open the garage when I restart light has come on but always ran ok so never bothered just put it down to a spurious fault.
But couple of weeks ago whilst driving check engine and reduced power safety mode flagged up an went into limp home, so switched off waited couple of mins restated all ok for rest of day.
Last night drove 20 miles ok parked up 15 mins restarted ok after 5 mins check engine reduced power safety mode again and was misfiring and surging, so switched off waited couple of mins restated ok drove to pub came out check engine and limp home again, drove couple of miles to my sons switched off restarted all ok ?.?.
Anybody had similar I'm guessing a temperature sensor but don't have a fault reader.

I'm nearby with EFI Live, happy to read any fault codes etc.?

Occasional check engine message for me was just an O2 sensor dieing.

Personally I've not seen the 'reduced power' or limp mode before so not much to offer there!

Thanks Chris any idea on which one I need as I guess there's lot to choose from?
By the way good to meet up and chat at the car show Sunday.

Ah that was you and your car , sorry i did not realise , code readers are as cheap as 10£ to still fairly cheap at 24£ on ebay , i also downloaded an app on my iphone called fourstroke , it was from memory about 5£ , it needed a wifi obd 2 reader which again about 5 or so on ebay , a standard cheap code reader does not tell you all but reads most engine faults , the iphone one reads more and gives you 02 sensor voltages too , im thinking air filter as a possible or a failing ht lead i carry spares plus rock auto do complete sets at very reasonable prices , hope that helps

I have one of these from ebay and use either "Torque" or "Dash Command" apps on Android

  • I've not been able to read codes on either device I own, cheap wired reader and Torque Pro on an android phone. If you need your present codes reading, SturdyHSV is your man.
  • curiously, I can clear codes with the handheld, just not read them!!

Can I ask which "cheap" wired reader you have?
