Pulled away last night off of the drive to to some shopping when I returned I noticed I’d left a trail of oil.had a look this morning looking at the engine I think the pump is leaking as the puddle on the floor is in line also one of the bottom grooved pulleys seams to have oil on it. I started the engine and noticed under pressure there is a drip onto the floor , obviously I will endeavour to get it checked out but where does anyone recommend for a pump just in case the car is a monaro 5.7 bar any help gratefully received

It may well be a leak from the power steering fluid cooler that sits in front of the radiator (or from the associated pipework). These are well known rust attractors - I'm on my third!

Unlikely to be the pump leaking but as said cooler or the high&low pressure pipes to the rack corroded if your lucky could just be a loose jubilee clip on the cooler . Get it sorted !!! Don't be tempted to drive it as is a burst corroded pipe will make a big mess and probably take out the pump when it runs dry

I had another look today and to get a proper look at the pump and pipe work it looks like the radiator may have to come out definitely the airfilter and main pipe

Cooler can be changed without removing the rad you my well have to remove the air intake to change the pipes. The rack pipes are straight forward to change but access is painfull at the rack end. I found it easier to get the low pressure pipe out from the crossmember by releasing the anti rollbar clamps to get it out without bending.
I did mine when I did quick rack and spotted the corroded pipes so changed them before they leaked

The cooler is in front of the rad can be seen through the grill in the bumper (on a vxr anyway) the one you can see looking down the gap between the rad and the engine bolted on either side of the crank pulley is the high pressure pipe going to the rack , it's part metal pipe and part rubber and corrodes badly in front of the crank pulley

My 6.0 ls2 vxr was different to a 5.7 may be worth asking pedders . Ls2 ones are rare for some reason and I had to get one from eBay.au . I had a temporary one made up by pirtek using the old one as a donor but I wouldn't recommend doing the same as the steering didn't feel right and made a lot of hydraulic noise which was all rectified when I fitted the new genuine pipe

Pedders do a hose for 2004 5.7

Not sure if it's the one you need but I believe the 04 high pressure pipe can be modded to fit an 05 car

After 3 hours I removed the corroded pipe , it’s the low pressure pipe that comes from the resoviure black rubber hose down the inner wing to the metal pipe around the chassis then along behind the rad attached to metal support then around to another metal pipe. Now seeing as it’s low pressure can anyone tell me why this pipe cannot be all rubber? And I cannot see why the pipe had to go around and through that metal chassis from what I can see all it needs to do is run down the inner wing then a 90 degree bend and run along the metal support any advice please as getting this pipe back in is going to be a real pain as the old pipe was damaged getting it out

The low pressure pipe from reservoir to the cooler connection has been replaced by several folks with rubber hose or even 10mm copper central heating pipe , I made an exact copy from 10mm stainless steel pipe all work ok it's your choice really.

I am going to make my own custom pipe been on eBay can get s steel 10 mm pipe a metre long plus postage £8.00 and a new hand held pipe bender for £6.99 inc postage so I’m going to get 2 lengths and take my time and see how it ends up !

Hi yes I will, I’m going to go a more direct route I’m going to go straight down the inner wing ( avoiding going through and around the chassis ) 2 shallow bends and along the narrow Cross member then a short rubber hose which I have from the old pipe to connect to the existing pipe that goes in front of the rad, I’m going to take my time so an updated post will be in the future

Well fingers crossed have made my own pipe and fitted today, as in the last post I used s/steel micro bore 10 mm pipe I duplicated the bend on the pipe to the left of the rad ran along the cross member then a graduall curve to make 45 degrees to run up the inner wing. I used custom made copper brackets to hold the pipe in place along the cross member. 900 mm length was the right length so no cutting I reduced the length of the rubber l shaped like hose by 110 mm and of coarse used new jubilee clips . In hindsight I should have used copper pipe more user friendly.
