I've read its possible to self program a new key using a well known technique easily found on here, my question is has anyone else failed to do this?
I've bought 2 new 'genuine?' keys from Aus, but neither will program up using this self program method. I don't get any horn chirps or anything.
Its a early VXR 5.7 model not that should make any difference.
Any suggestions?

Took my car to a small family business garage in Ravenfield (Rotherham), the lady there spent 2.5hrs using 3 different types of interface, but finally cracked it. She was able to fully program my 2 new keys, I had NO security codes at all to work with.
She was able to pull ALL the codes from my car and gave me them in case needed for the future.
Can't recommend her enough, I'm certain many others would have given up, others I've tried couldn't even be bothered to return my calls.
I was only charged £72 inc.VAT for BOTH smile That's really reasonable.
She could do another in around 20-30mins now.

I hope this might help anyone with a Monaro in the future.

I have an early big boot CV8 and have the same issue. The chirps don't happen, in any situation.

I was going to take it to MF, but was too late. Luton VX don't want to know about Monaro's so maybe a trip to Walkinshaw for me.

Thank you! This is helpful because at least I know I'm not alone with this one.
Thought maybe my new keys were duff.
Yes, maybe I'll need to visit WP as well. Might just give my local VX dealer a call first.

Monaro wise , If you are changing it as fobs are looking tired ? the electronics can be taken out of fob and put in a new fob , the fobs are cheap on ebay but have no internals , if it’s a case of you need the new electrics i emailed holden au via a friend and they gave me the details code wise to program the fob , so it’s now a case of finding someone than can program so AAS or Walkinshaw , don’t know if that helps you

I too failed to get the 'self programming' to work, mine's an 04 cv8. Ended up breaking open fobs and put old internals in new casings, not ideal.

The Monaro keys are made of some wellard plastic, but the rubber buttons are the weakest link.

Are the buttons letting the side down? Like many of us I replaced mine with silicone buttons and now the keys look and function probably better than new. I got white letters on black buttons, it looks original, and youtube videos show you that you don't have to open the key. You just hook the old buttons out, have a clean-up and push the new ones in.

Really appreciate the input guys.
I only have 1 working key, and that scares me! I have bought 2 new genuine keys from Aus and want to program these.
The self program method isn't working so I need a tech 2....and the key code which I don't have! I have contacted WP, they've contacted Holden who don't recognise my VIN number so this may leave me stuffed! I was told Holden records of early Monaros was sketchy.
I'm quite bothered about this. I only need to drop my working key and it break and then my car is useless! frown
I'm going to try my local VX dealer, you never know they might surprise me.

on my scooby a bloke read the key code and transferred it to a new key , you possibly won’t get button fuction but if it works it may give you another key to at least start it ? other options can security be turned off so immobiliser is no more and get a cat 1 alarm fitted ?

The chap at WP suggest they might be able to read and copy 1 key without the code, but the master tech is away. Maybe he will be able to shed some light on return. I am hopeful!

The parts guys at Warrington Vauxhall said they could possibly do it - though they reckoned it would be 50/50.

In the unlikely event Walkinshaws actually get back to you, please let us know how you get on - I could do with getting a spare key programmed!

I also tried Vauxhall for my last Monaro - charged me £25 for the privilege and it wasn't even the right code!! (wrong number of digits). I would be absolutely amazed, make that genuinely staggered if Vauxhall come up with the info you need..........

Surely its possible to simply get the key/s cloned?
That's what the modern thief is doing?

And as a bonus, she was very pleasant on the eyes too!

Nice one! I just need to find a key cutter that'll do my blank now....and not at £25.
