I've had the Hinson Motorsports engine mounts on the shelf for 3 years now (I know...!) and a new transmission mount that I did the 'window weld' mod on (this just involves filling the gap in the mount with window weld, which sets to a fairly stiff rubber)

Finally got around to installing them yesterday, friend brought over their engine crane and other than needing some extensions and a good wobble joint, engine mounts were a lot easier than expected. Driver's side I had to take the sump guard off and wrestle it out the bottom as it's so crowded on that side of the engine bay.

Turns out my passenger side engine mount had split apart on the underside, so the engine was fairly 'out of control'!

This has meant that despite the new mounts being firmer, the car is now actually much smoother at idle, as the engine isn't flapping about all over the place...

Trans mount swap is really easy, support the trans on a jack, 8 bolts off and replace.

Main reason for doing all this was to try to better control the drivetrain to make enthusiastic shifting easier as obviously going from full throttle to nothing when changing gear meant there was a lot of movement of the shifter right when you were going for the next gear.

First impressions are that the shift feels a LOT better, I haven't given it any abuse yet but just pootling about it felt vastly improved.

There's a noticeable 'throb' from the engine through the car around 1,500 rpm under load, but it's much more of a sort of low massage frequency than a rattle or anything like that, so I'm pretty chuffed, now that the monsoon has stopped I will give it a bit more of an investigation, but thought it's been a bit quiet for mods on here recently so I'd post up biggrin

keep us updated, that's something I would be interested in doing myself.

Have given it a bit of a hammering, and yes it's vastly improved.

The resonant throb around 1500 rpm is occasionally a bit disconcerting as it feels a little like a misfire or something is happening, hard to describe, but obviously it's unfamiliar so momentarily sets off the instinctive alarm bells before you remember what's going on.

In terms of other NVH, I can't tell any difference to be honest. Things in general actually feel less clonky and much more connected, it's the most confident I've felt changing gear for 7 years! At cruising speeds etc there's no hum or additional vibration or noise that I can tell.

Sticking your foot down it also feels like it's slightly keener, like it immediately gets on with accelerating without any drama, again quite hard to describe though.

I'd imagine I'm getting a exaggerated benefit from the upgrade given that I've gone from a broken OEM engine mount and tired old OEM trans mount (the rubber was peeling away from the frame) to all new firmer stuff. To be fair I would imagine I'd have felt a benefit just going to new factory units.

Either way, I'm chuffed with the results, no downsides for me!
