Short and sweet question - would there be any issue with running the AP Racing calipers up front with the VXR rear calipers? Mismatch or lack of brake balance was my first thought.

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question, but it made me think if there would be a balance issue, could you swap the front VXR calipers (and discs I assume) to the rear if you replaced the fronts with APs?

Got to make these things interesting hehe

I am no expert in this field but I have experienced using vxr and AP brakes and I would not mix them.

The AP brake kit was designed specifically for the Monaro. They would have taken in to account the brake balance and the anti lock threshold of the car. If you mix and match you might have problems. I suspect during normal driving there won't be an issue, but when you press on and start heating the brakes up the AP's will obviously be OK, but the rears will cook and fade.

- though it's the fronts that do most of the work on any car - never faded rears on anything...

I wouldn’t have thought it’d be too much of a problem. The rears aren’t designed to stop with anywhere near the amount of force that the fronts generate otherwise you’d constantly lock up the rears every time you stood on the brakes hard, or at very least you’d get the abs kicking in on the rears as all the weight went forward.

Does anyone recognise this AP part number - I took a pint on some 4 - pot AP calipers and discs.
cp7516-100c

I've identified them as AP 6600 series calipers.

Fronts look good, rears are truly gash.

Cheers

I don't know how I managed to get my thumb in there! AP cast into the rear

Anyone? If the distance between the mounting lugs is the same as my PFB calipers then the calipers will fit. However, I think the bell will not fit, so I'd need a pair of Monaro bells.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Oh, I managed to remove the bleed nipples with minimal issue - one was starting to seize but a bit of Eezit freed it up.

So these are standard VXR8? Are these 360mm? I have a pair of monaro bells for the 360mm disc but you can also use range rover sport discs as I did. Saves a fortune and they don’t turn into Pringles

The discs are 360mm, yes. The calipers look exactly like the HSV VE AP racing upgrade; is this standard fit for the VXR8.

Does the RR disc fit exactly, does the caliper fit without adjustment, and my discs I presume won't fit as is - and would need the bells from the Monaro?

So many questions here! I might have to email you if that's ok?

Ok. My knowledge is quite specific I’m affraid. My CV8 monaro has the six pot 360mm upgrade fitted. The discs fitted to the bells were knackered and they have a reputation for going out of shape as well as being quite expensive. Alternatively Range Rover sport discs fit (with a little work) and are much cheaper. Once you’ve fitted your first set of RR discs the next time will be easy.
Alternatively the dead discs still fitted to the bells lay in my garage (for sale) if you wanted to go down that road.
I will post a link of the RR disc swap I did

Your discs might even fit. I only assumed you had been told otherwise
