AP kit for Monaro
Discussion

Ah OK, so best to call them as only the VXR8 really appears on their website particularly clearly?
SturdyHSVI have a full Monaro AP kit on order from Walkinshaw's, hopefully they can fit it in July. As far as I know Walkinshaws are the only ones that have a licence to sell AP's for these cars.

And arguably, a kit with proper radial mounted calipers and appropriate discs...might be better than the troublesome official kit.
Where would you get a kit like that, and what is the difference from the AP set up, how much would it cost?I'm not keen on spending a lot of cash on AP's if it's not as good as its cracked up to be.

As said, BG Developments do all things AP.I'm not keen on spending a lot of cash on AP's if it's not as good as its cracked up to be.

Not sure if they've already made a kit for them or not, but I do recall a user here mentioning they were in discussions with them ages ago.
But as above, the problem isnt so much the calipers...as the AP Racing discs are a poor choice for a road car. A kit that will utilise a cheaper disc would be better as most cheaper discs are a softer material more akin to normal road car discs.
The racing discs just seem to corrode quite badly, especially if not used often, and can end up with bumpy bump pedal, which lets face it, almost every user here who's had an AP kit fitted to their car has suffered with.
And is the reason many have chosen to opt for the cheap Land Rover disc option come replacement time ( or whatever the OEM type disc was from that is almost the same dimensions )

OK thanks for that. I was aware of possible corrosion issues. However I'm hoping that as my car is garaged rust won't be a problem. Maybe since these AP kits have been available for many years, AP should make better direct replacement discs by now?Not sure if they've already made a kit for them or not, but I do recall a user here mentioning they were in discussions with them ages ago.

Anyone who comprises on trying to mix & match brake parts eg : The Land Rover discs ,making dowels & spacers to get them to fit etc etc & no product testing etc etc are just plain stupid
I had a set of Aps sat on a Ute for 5 years unused outside & was still perfectly serviceable & are still being used on the car now by its present owner
Bg are the people to deal with & I believe Hadland's kits are suppose to be good

Largely AP make racing discs, for racing cars. And yes although road car kits now use those same discs...they're obviously intended for regular hard use.So it's not a case of AP needing to make a better replacement...it's up to the user to make the correct choice for their usage.
For a daily road car that never actually sees hard track use, they are a very poor choice ( and yes, I have AP discs on my own car )
Martin Hadland/Reyland does offer cheaper discs/bells in the correct size that are much cheaper and would be a far better road disc.
Although I'm sure most of the cheaper kit makers will do the same, HiSpec, Wilwood etc etc. At Autosport a couple of years ago, some of the HiSpec stuff actually looked quite good although they do have a bit of a reputation of poor customer service.
But I would still like to retain a good quality caliper like AP though. And again, pad choice can be very important for road use. Some pads can be very aggressive and eat discs and also spew out lots of metal, and with such a big disc/caliper, aggressive pads shouldnt be needed for most people unless they really are hammering the discs.
One thing that was never really covered... What is this mythical "regular use"?
Presumably being garaged makes a difference, so if outside are we talking 1 week and they're ruined, 1 month? Is there even a vague ballpark? (assuming it's not living on a beach or something)
If garaged I assume it's much less of an issue...?
Just want to get a feel really as I've been half tempted for years but never really known what "regular use" means...

One week outside and if there is any moisture in the air they will have a very light covering of rust but nothing a drive can't sort, i had my maloo outside without being used for around 3 months in the winter and the disc's were f**kedPresumably being garaged makes a difference, so if outside are we talking 1 week and they're ruined, 1 month? So I can't see anything obvious on the Pedders / Wortec / AP / Walkinshaw websites about getting hold of one of these kits?
I can find the discs via Pedders but as I'm still on stock brakes then I need the kit to get me started (or rather stopped...)
Cheers
Ive just had a full set of APs fitted supplied by walkinshaw give them a ring speak to daveI can find the discs via Pedders but as I'm still on stock brakes then I need the kit to get me started (or rather stopped...)

Had mine on for a couple years or so now. Can't say they require any real looking after. Other than getting the wheel off for a clean occasionally.
What I can say is they should have been standard fit. As the VXR brakes are woeful. I can only imagine how bad the CV8 brakes are.
Never had any fade, cars stood for long periods without any issue. Small clunk as it takes off from the surface rust if left a while. By the time I'm on the main road the surface rust is gone and they are back to normal. Car lives outside in Manchester weather (lots of rain) and the pedal feels perfectly fine 2 years on.
I'd say you use yours enough James that it wouldn't be an issue to worry about.

Thank you for the sound advice. As mine is outside in all weathers so far i am very pleased with the APsWhat I can say is they should have been standard fit. As the VXR brakes are woeful. I can only imagine how bad the CV8 brakes are.
