I removed the reverse switch from gearbox Monaro VXR 2005 LS2, to check correct level for gearbox oil.
On refitting the reverse switch without much effort the switch sheared at the threaded section where it joins the hexigon spanner section.

I was lucky to be able to remove the broken thread section from gearbox as it was not that tight. When looking at the sheared section the metal was crystalised so I should say it is not made of very good material.

Any way rang Vauxhall dealership spares department to check availability and price, they needed VIN number of car as nothing showed up for Monaro. They then said yes there was only two in the country at £83 + VAT eachyikes

So I went on Ebay and got one delivered to the door for £15.27p.

Needless to say that I think this must be the biggest rip off price on any Monaro part from Vauxhall.

So if you need to remove the reverse switch, purchase one from Ebay before removing original as there could be a nasty shock furiousespecially if you take your car to a dealership for a gearbox oil change.

Ade,

You should know Vauxhall is a charity these days, it's up to us to keep them in business, so get back to them on Tuesday and hand over the cash....you will feel good inside.

Where on Earth do car manufacturers get these prices from? £900.00 FFS!!!!! some prices I've been quoted in the past made be feel a lot like Michael Douglas when he stared in a film called Falling Down .....I seem to relate to that every day.

I’ve just ordered through rock auto , one of my ht leads is going south , excluding import duty it was 40£ for uprated leads , ive also ordered some ht lead socks as this is the second set of leads and not many miles , i changed the plugs too ebay usa i think plugs were around 30 to 40 £ delivered , only downside is waiting for things to turn up but i suppose a week is not too bad , are ls1 plugs the same as ls3 spark plugs ?? and can you use a usa oil filter or is the thread different ??

Spark plugs Yes. AC Delco 41-110

Oil Filters depends which car, but rockauto sell them all.
More or less you can substitute the below to get the right parts.
2009 Pontiac G8 GXP 6.2 = VE HSV LS3
2009 Pontiac G8 6.0 = VE SS type car.
2005 Pontiac GTO = LS2 VXR
2004 Pontiac GTO = LS1 Monaro/VXR
2014/15 Chevrolet SS = LS3 VF Commodore
2012 Camaro ZL1 = VF GTS for engine parts
