Had my Ro for 10 years and 12000 miles still on original clutch and now done 64000. Sometimes a bit sticky engaging first when cold, bite point is high and tad noisy in fourth. Considering mileage and spigot bearing issues would it be advisable to have new clutch and spigot changed at next service?
Any idea how much this would be?
More confused than ever now about servicing with Topcats being mentioned alot as well as Walkinshaw. Can topcats supply parts?
All advice appreciated

Hi, with that milage I think that it would be wise to change clutch to LS7 type and have new bearing fitted, also remote bleed pipe and a new clutch slave cylinder fitted. I paid around £1,300 fitted but it was not done by any of the main stream companies.
Once the Gearbox is removed then get every thing done in one go and relax after that all as been covered .

My Monaro had around 58000, miles on the clock when I had a new clutch fitted. I had trouble getting first gear and sometimes second, and I was convinced that the spigot bearing was to blame. I had Monkfish take the gearbox off to investigate. They found that the spigot bearing, slave cylinder and rear crank oil seal ( I think that was what it was called) were all in perfect condition, the clutch however was shot and way past its best. That really surprised me as I've had the car since 6000 miles, and it gets treated like a baby. I have heard that the factory clutch is marginal in this application, another cost cutting exercise no doubt. I had the LS7 clutch pack fitted ( clutch, pressure plate and flywheel) together with a remote bleeder, and it's way better than when I first got the car. I think the job was around £1000.00, but I'd have to dig out the receipts to check.

Regarding TopCats, their main trade is TVR servicing and putting LS engines in to them, so I'd be sure they could handle anything engine / gearbox related. They also run a race team so to be honest I imagine you're in pretty safe hands.Any idea how much this would be?

I presume their name has started to pop up more now because there were some big meets there where a LOT of Holdens turned up and the TopCats lot are clearly a friendly and professional bunch. They're also relatively near to where Monkfish used to be.
I am also in year 10 of ownership with the car about to hit 50k miles on the original clutch. This is an area of concern, but I was under the illusion that mf would sort the LS7 update as and when it was needed. That is no longer an option, so will keep an eye on this thread with interest. I might even think about doing it myself if I can ever clear my garage of project mk2 cavaliers.

Mine has just gone past 106k and still on the original! Slave & spigot replaced under my ownership...starting to think a new one will be required though!
106k on the original clutch is good going.......I would change it at the first sign of anything suspicious.I might be wrong here, but I'm not sure if a Monaro clutch will start to slip when it's worn, it just gets harder to select a gear, then game over!!!!!!!

Without meaning to sound like a broken record, I have been back to Topcats to have a few things done. Although they were busy they squeezed me in and I picked up today with a new Mishimoto radiator and propshaft centre bearing fitted, and all four wheels rebalanced (vibration that it appears was the perished prop support). The guy who did the work showed me the state of the old bearing, and we also had a long chat about how the rad was fitted, rubber supports trimmed to allow the rad to drop in to place, and he even trimmed back the radiator shroud. I had previously trimmed it back myself to fit an OTRCAI but he prettied it up to suit the nice new ally rad fitted!
Car washed, bill very reasonable - again I am an extremely happy customer.

As a follow up, my car is an LS1 VXR. Other than clutch, pressure plate & flywheel - is there anything else needed for the LS1 when upgrading to the LS7?
Slave cylinder and remote clutch bleed would be two good additions, while the box is being worked on. I presume a spigot bearing comes with the clutch kit?selym said:

Cheers, I think the spigot (pilot on PWP?) has to be bought separately. Had the slave and remote line fitted approx 3 years back so the former should hopefully still be OK?dsmith1990 said:

It's one of those things that I know will need to be replaced...bit annoying as I am thinking about replacing the suspension and also the rear discs need doing. Just getting the money together to do everything in stages!
