New battery 4 weeks ago
Had lad from work check charging from alternator he said 14.4v . as it is on the volt meter in dash.
Checked the battery and thats fine
Cars diagnostic panel says 12v
As if something maybe draining the battery.. had this a few years ago which was the alarm bonnet catch ( common issue )
Fully charged battery over night and occasionally volt meter fluctuates between 13v and 14.5v. never noticed that before.

Any ideas fellas ? ?

If you have a good test meter with amps/milliamps setting, make sure everything is turned off, pop the bonnet remove the neg connection from battery, set meter to the highest amp setting to start with, connect one meter lead to the battery terminal and the other lead to the lead you removed from battery and if something is draining the battery it will show on the meter reading.

If there is a drain then you need to start pulling fuses until you see the amp meter reading drop, if you see no drop when pulling the fuses under the bonnet, you then need to find the other fuses inside the car,

You will need to remove meter leads, before you open the door or boot, you will need to hold in the door or bonnet light switches, reconnect the meter and continue pulling fuses until you find the culprit circuit that is draining battery.

So is the battery charging or not ?

If you're seeing around 14v at idle then yes it is.

So if the battery is going flat in a short period of time ( you dont mention ? ) then either something is draining it, or the battery is knackered.

how old is it ?

Battery is only three weeks old... had someone else check today, says its only putting 12.5v into the battery with everything turned on.
my volt needle usually stays around 14 to 14.5 v now it ranges from 12v to 14v .
with my limited knowledge, im assuming it is the alternator.
Anyone know where to buy one in the uk now M.F. has closed

Turn everything off with engine on 5ick over, give it a few mins and then put the volt meter across the battery terminals, it should read about 14 volts if it is then alternator is putting out what it should, you then need to do the amp test I mentioned in previous post just to check there is not a drain

What flavour car is it? Strawberry? Vanilla? LS2 VXR8 2007, I am guessing from a data search!?
Might be 92193199 ??

A few people in my normal home were "melting" starter motors on VE Commodores.
The problem was intermittent, sometimes they would work and sometimes they wouldn't.

First start up dash meter reads 14.5 after quarter of a mile drops to 12.5. With no electrics on.... just noticed last night the blue light stops on. On the Sat nav unit. I'll look for the fuse and pull it to see if it makes any difference.. Don't have a hand held volt meter. Will have to wait until weekend when I can get someone to have another look.
