Hi everyone.
I’m putting this post up on behalf of my dad! (He’s not too clever with this sort of stuff)
He has recently sold his TVR T350 and is very interested in the VXR8’s as these would be practical and hopefully more reliable and also he loves the sound of a V8.
So, as he’s new to all this, he’s just after a bit of friendly advice on them:
- Where is a good place to buy them
- where would you recommend taking them for servicing etc. (We are based in Cambridge)
- to buy one with or without a supercharger
- where and what sort of exhaust to put on if he buys one with a standard exhaust
- any common problems/faults to look out for on them
- any reasonable insurance companies out there you would recommend
- and any other general advice on them
Apologies for all the questions but I’m sure we’ve all been there! 🙂
Any advice would be much appreciated so thanks in advance and look forward to hearing back from some of you.

Liam

Hi

First, let me say what a fine choice that your Dad has made :-)

My first port of call would be to talk to James at Elite Car Co (http://www.elitecar.co.uk) and he can give you some of the pros and cons. I have bought 2 and sold one through him and have been very happy with both. A lot depends on your budget, appetite for mods, colour will drive your choice to an extent - if you like blue, its a 6.0 LS2 or a Gen-F. If you like white or grey (evoke in VXR8 terms), its a 6.2 LS3

As for your other questions

not sure re Cambridge and servicing - but they aren't complicated so any competent mechanic should be able to sort you out
s/c or not s/c. Depends on your budget and what you want. They aren't slow as standard but that clearly raises the bar.
as for exhaust - very few come as standard these days anyway so will likely have something already. The different types - wortec/WP etc all sound different so its down to preference
as for common faults, mine have all been pretty reliable - control arms are made of chocolate so you go through those on a regular basis but I am sure others will come up with a more comprehensive list.

There is also a Facebook group where post people seem to hang out these days so you may have more joy posting over there - try this

That’s all very helpful, thank you for your feedback.
Elite cars was on list to call as they seem to appear a lot in the ads.
Thanks again.

James from Elite is on here as preciousmetal - no doubt he will be along at some point to not advertise his stock. wink

For servicing, the respected independents are (North to South) AAS in Newcastle, MWP in Chester, STR Racing in Norwich, Walkinshaw Performance near Oxford, Neil Johnson near Maidstone and Carl Herkes in Southampton however anyone that is competent with a set of spanners can do most jobs on the cars. They're quite simple really (the cars, not the mechanics).
