i’m running a fairly standard ls3 engine , it’s got a 10/40 oil in it , it’s not a cheap oil , the oil pressure guage shows between 2.5 kpa at idle up to about 4 kpa max revs , if i blip the throttle revs go straight up when i lift off a slight delay on return pressure , is that pressure normal it seems higher than before , weather is very cold i assume even when oil is warm the weather has an effect on it too , the oil temp gauge is inaccurate but showing lower than normal it’s less than 125 when fully warm , should i be concerned ? cheers in advance for any replies

The oil will be thicker until it's warmed properly but I wouldn't be concerned. There's a huge variation in oil pressures across LS engines. Google shows up all sorts of different results, most of which are normal.

One thing, don't blip the throttle to hard on a stone cold engine if you have an oil cooler. Don't ask me how I know :-)

cheers for the reply , i don’t think the ls3 has an oil cooler , i did do a bit of a blip after it had been running for 4 or 5 mins , blip was bigger than intended lol

It's cold. I've noticed my oil pressure sitting higher recently but only until the engine has fully warmed up and then it goes back to normal. Unfortunately with the current weather we have up north. It's barely getting fully warmed up in my 15 to 20 mile commute.

Unless it's an early saab, in which case you can abuse it as much as you like :-) They built muppetry into it's evolution.

All seems ok with mine , i used a 10/40 rather than a 5/30 so i think that’s raised the pressure slightly and it was a cold day , it had been idling before revving it but revved it a bit higher than intended but i know i should not rev when cold , the exhaust mods seem to have made a difference lifted off in first sounded like a machine gun going off lol , my only other issue is i have what sounds like a small bird chirping in the engine bay , i think it’s the top pulley any idea who has them and price wise ?
