WANTED: 3.9 diff (2004 CV8)
Discussion
At a guess I would say 385hp with those mods would be worth checking again. My CV8, which also has those mods put down 325hp at the rear wheels, so that would be somewhere around 425hp at the flywheel. My car has been fitted with a 390.1 rear end which has woken it up quite a bit. The odd thing is my car now drives the way I imagined a Monaro would drive when stock! That's the trouble when your expectations are too high.

My figure quoted was at flywheel, I figured that a 60bhp gain was a bit much too to expect from those mods on a N/A engine. The previous owner was of the same opinion. I’m not too bothered as it runs nicely its just the gearing. I went from an STI Impreza and the gearing on that was spot on. Couldn’t crack 90mph in 3rd but felt so lively even with a bit of lag. The monaro has the torque to deal with it but the sensation of speed is soaked up when the speedo is climbing at the same rate as the Rev counter.
Now found a local specialist to do the rebuild, just need to get the bits together. What seals do I need to order with the gears. Still not decided on if the LSD is worth changing? I’ve never had an issue with it?
I had Monkfish build my diff, so I can't advise on which parts to use. However I would say use only the best quality components, a cheapo bearing will spoil your day, and a cheap crown and pinion will whine most of the time. As for the LSD, I would change that if you can. I had a a Truetrac fitted which works well enough, but I've never been happy with it as mine clunks a lot. Some Truetracs are worse than others, but lots of people on here are happy with them. I believe a Kaaz or Wavetrac LSD are a good choice for these cars. Sadly none of these parts are cheap, so do some research before you splash out.

Still can’t find a U.K. supplier for gear set?
You wont. Its the long wait from OZ I'm afraid. You could see if 'raving' on here has a HSV VT2 diff from a breaker, its a 3.7:1 diff.
But there are plenty of used diffs on Ebay.au , some rebuilt ones with lower ratios, spools, whatever you want.
Heres one company , but I found a few more.

He knows that I have one , well all the ratios I have available ( not that i can say that on here )
The price was the price
It makes me laugh when some say what they think its worth & it should have a Kaaz in also for that etc
What do they know ? Maybe they do the parts ?
Hi Raving, I’m not sure if that reply is aimed at me personally? Anyway, thanks for your speedy reply last week. indeed your price is your price! I haven’t suggested otherwise I’m only asking the opinions of others who might be better educated than me on the subject. I haven’t asked you to discount it. I’m sure it’s worth every penny. The fact is, if an upgraded second hand diff is indeed £1750 + postage + fitting my end.....then I’m almost instantly perfectly happy with the diff ratio I have.
This thread is to investigate the possible options and expected costs

I would not pay it personally but many have and lots more
Most have been ,lets say , led down the garden path with costs previously
Anything in short supply and sort after will always command a premium
