Monaro engine under sheald
Discussion
I still have the sump guard fitted to my car, and TBH I wouldn't drive without it. My car is lowered and the possibility of causing damage to the sump or oil filter is not worth the risk. There are some outrageous speed humps around here!
I can't see any issues with air flow other than an improvement in aerodynamics by keeping it on! It might trap some underbody engine heat but nothing to worry about. It's worth remembering that these cars were tested under harsh conditions in the Australian outback.
I think you are right about the corrosion aspect, I painted my new power steering cooler then used a Dynax rust proofing spray to coat everything both in and out of sight. I have topped up the rust protection every couple of years. So far it's been fine.
