When i bought my Monaro the seller did mention one of the top mounts had been replaced and as such squeaks when cold, test drive was fine but it had been stored in his garage, now it's gone cold the suspension is quite squeaky, seems to be a general squeak as apose to from the replaced top mount. I have read that uprated bushes squeak, unsure if mine have been replaced however. The suspension is pretty hard, is this normal? It's a 2005 CV8. Anyone else have squeaky suspension?

It seems odd that somebody would change just one top suspension mount. With that in mind you can bet your bottom dollar that the other mount and bearing will need changing as well.
I remember being told that after 30,000 miles most of the standard suspension components will be way past their best. TBH I would start again and change both top mounts and bearings with uprated pedders items.
Depending on your cars mileage, I would think about replacing the dampers and possibly springs, it maybe worth considering a suspension kit and do the lot.
The thing is cost is always a factor, I just upgraded my suspension over time and replaced various parts in packages, for example, I fitted a Road response pack, then a Rear end pack, and finally, the pedders low suspension kit.
My car is an 05 CV8, and it does not squeak, even though there is still a few original bushes to change.
I have had my car for over 10yrs, and it drives better now than it ever did.
Happy Christmas list.....

I forgot to mention, the standard suspension on my car was also hard and not that comfortable at low speeds.
Last year at around 50 odd thousand miles, I had fitted the pedders low suspension kit, and it transformed the ride. The car is now comfortable around town, and feels planted to the road at speed.

Thanks for that

It's only done 60k, like you say, low speeds it's pretty harsh but cruising it's nice and smooth.

Yes, that sounds quite normal for a CV8. If I remember correctly the rear shocks are gas, and the fronts are just oil filled. The rear springs are also prone to going going soft, when that happens the rear end will start to sag.
The harsh ride will be improved by changing shocks, lf you do change your springs there are different ride heights to consider, standard, low, and super low. You could also consider coil overs that are adjustable.
Be aware that you can make the ride very stiff if you go too far, it depends on want you want and how much money you are prepared to spend. A Monaro will always have a firm ride at low speed, that's just how they are.
I wanted an improvement in handling, ride quality and a slightly lowered look, not a track weapon. In reality my suspension is as good as it's ever going to be, and I'm quite happy with it.
Mind you, my brakes are way past their best, that's the next job......It never ends with a muscle car!!!!!!!

That's good to know thanks, i've read a few times that it seems to be relatively normal, just wanting to reassure myself.

Brakes i'm going to look at doing next year, suspension wise i like the way it sits and rides at the moment but replacing like for like when needed won't do any harm

I replaced the dampers on my VXR at around 35,000 miles and the transformation was remarkable. The car felt considerably more planted without that sort of floaty 'above the road' feeling it used to have at speed.

The stock or pedders items are quite good and a lot of effort was put in to the car, so do at least consider replacing the stock items with decent new ones before going down the coilovers route. Unless you're just making it a track toy, in which case coilovers will be faster thumbup

Hi Nick
Just read your post about the squeak. It only started when the top rubbers and bearings were changed but it always stopped squeaking after about 5 miles. Can confirm that both sides were changed by Monkfish and various bushes have been changed at sometime all from Monkfish which were Pedders. All the parts i have had put on have come from Monkfish even the service parts. If i was to have kept the car i was going to change the springs and dampers as the car is quiet heavy on the front and am sure fresh suspension would hold it up better. Just drive the car for more than 5 miles then it don't squeak. Hope your enjoying it though.
Jeff.

Hiya Jeff

Thanks for that, I couldn't remember if you said both had been changed. The noise does go after a while, my commute is only 3 miles so it's more obvious but like you say, on a decent drive it's fine. Just wanted to confirm things were normal before i started to worry about it.

Loving it so far, don't think i will ever tire of the noise cloud9

Try spraying a little WD40 in the area of squeak

wd40 or a spray grease , if the polybushes have been done they some times dry out again a bit of spray grease normally sorts it out , most important thing is at least the parts have been changed, i had same issue with mine and the grease resolved it
