What rate are you losing at? Couldn't comment from experience on LS2 but there are plenty of threads for LS1 excessive consumption... the original PCV arrangement wasn't ideal, but that was addressed for LS2 I believe...

My 64000. Mile LS1 never needs topping up with oil between services, I can't see any reason why the LS2 should be any different.
Many years ago there was a well known problem in Australia with LS1 engines using oil, but that issue was fixed when the cars were still under factory warranty. The U.K. Monaros were not affected.

Generally use about 1 litre of 10/30 royal purple every 10,000 miles. No oil leaks, no smoking. Always done it from 16,000 miles when bought.

Same my ls1 does use oil , not a lot , it's normal to use oil just depends on how much all engines are different , somewhere on line probably an au site will tell you how much to expect usage wise

if the above does not works , 700 to 1000 km travelled per litre used is deemed as high , a catch can was suggested , pcv system is main fault , i can't think where i would plumb a catch can in as i don't know the ls1 pcv system layout

Just did the auto box oil and filter, new plugs, leads, new MPSS and a right going over etc. She was spotless in there when we looked in the auto box. No issues that we discussed since going Mafless ( some 6000 miles ago now ) suspect that was the problem. Paddle shift is still fun but after the auto box oil change in Drive its more like sport and sport is ballistic. Point and hang on.

I have an oil catch can which slowely fills. I don't see a lot of usage if I drive like it's a Sunday but if I drive enthusiastically then the usage goes up.

Where have you taken the pipe line to and from oil catcher.

Ade,
I may be wrong? But.... I think you splice the catch can into the thin pipe that runs from the rocker cover, ( drivers side) to the intake pipe prior to the throttle body. If that makes sense?

There are two breathers , both go to the area of the throttle , one before and one after the throttle in theory doing both is probably not a bad idea , i think you can buy twin catch cans , my concern is where to put the can as not much room in the engine bay , the oil usage says if you drive it slow and don’t rev more than 3000 or so it won’t use much if you exploit the car a bit more it will, so that’s fairly normal using some oil , my breather lines were pretty clear and clean so i don’t think at this stage i will do a catch can , i have one on my scooby and it’s never got any oil in it car still uses a minimal amount but catch can makes no difference on it , i would expect FI has more use of a can than NA as you ptobably get more blow by gases

Mine is practically a rolling oil change for some reason. Bad valve seals perhaps? I have a feeling it may have overheated badly in its past at some point as it has had a new radiator and new head gaskets...

Not overly concerned, far worse things in life to worry about but would be nice to get it sorted at one point!

I doubt this represents most LS2s though.

If you can imagine the current setup which is a 'U' shaped pipe that goes from the outlet of the valley cover to the return inlet of the throttle body. I have installed it there, so I ran a line from the valley cover to the catch can and then from the catch can to the inlet return of the throttle body. That way any oil particles are caught by the can and don't make it into the intake manifold.

In terms of the location of the catch can, I opted to mount it to my VCM intake heatshield. It was the only place I could find with enough air around it that still looked good. To do the job it was a case of drilling a couple of holes and then using rubber well nuts to get a good seal and protect them whilst providing a strong mounting area using the provided bracket. This means it's easy to take the can off and clean/empty it.

The lines and AN fittings I had to buy seperate which costs a little but extra to do but I wanted it to look good rather than the transparent garden hose that came with the kit.

Hopefully you can see from these photos of my engine bay exactly what I've done.
