Went to check the oil earlier and the release isn't working. How can I get the bonnet open and presumably I'll need a new cable? Also posted this on the Facebook group!

It's an 04 Monaro.

See the cable running along the driver's side, near to the headlight, then to the middle of the slam panel? Pulling that releases the bonnet...but I'm not sure if access through/behind the bumper is realistic.

Could try taking the wheel arch liner out and see if it can be reached then? That's how my headlight bulbs get changed smile

Thanks for the pics. I can hear it moving but just tried to open it with someone else applying a bit of pressure on the bonnet in the hope that it catches but think it's become disconnected.

Unless I can get something between the bonnet and bumper and exert enough pressure on the release bit there I think it'll have to go in.

Cable ? What cable ? I can't get past looking at those ITB's :-)

I had the bonnet cable snap on my Ute a while back, and although it's a right Ball-ache you can get to the back of the catch...

I had to knock out one of the grilles, and then you can reach up behind it and pull/push the catch enough to spring the release - it's a total ballache and really hurts your fingers...

Just make sure you've got the new cable and grease handy - mine had snapped as there was very little grease left on the catch mechanism and on the spring - a good coat of grease and the new cable made it much smoother to use...

I could only just get my fingers up behind the mechanism, you've got to feel for it as you can't see anything at all...

Held the lever back with the door open, gave the bonnet a couple of whacks at the same time and it popped. Thankfully found that trick on the ls1 gto forums!

The cable is still intact but I'm going to get it replaced anyway as it's probably too slack now. Got some grease as per fatboy's advice to apply to the latch as well and hopefully cure it for good.

Follow the cable back from the catch till you come across a little clamp screwed to the front panel . Slack the screw then pull the outer cable back to remove most of the slack but not all of it at the catch then tighten the clamp back up. As long as the bonnet pin is centered in the hole the bonnet should now pop open.
