Since a respray (which is probably irrelevant) during which the car obviously stood for a long period, the ABS light has come on. Any ideas where to start looking?

ABS sensor at the wheels? If one has a light dusting of overspray then it could be causing you problems.

Good thinking. I did wonder about disturbed wiring too as for a while the left indicators were doing double time.

Actually I think the battery is a bit naff, but it has been before without inducing this phenomenon.

If it still has the HSV Cold Air Intake on it, check the white connector on the chassis rail.
That sometimes get disconnected if it gets pinched under the HSV CAI shroud.
The connector sits on the chassis rail underneath the intake shroud. The bottom of the intake is sort of a V shape where it sits on the chassis rail.
It may have been moved if they had the bumper bar and headlight off the car????

Here is a picture from my other home from a few years ago of the relevant connector with the Airbox removed.
