Hi my 5.7 vxr is due an mot within the the next month! It won't pass as on the last mot they told me that it literally just passed on emissions (borderline) does anyone know where and an approximate cost of the cats .are they the same as on the 6.0 litres

it would be cheaper to try the test first...then if it fails worry about the cats.

Or at least have emissions tested.

give it some good high engine speeds on the motorway to get the cats really hot before you get to mot place.

I bought a pair of 3" sports cats for mine and welded them in - cost around 400 I think for two - can dig out more info if you need. Think they were Powerflow or something like that...

Thanks robbyd that would be great if you could give me more info, I live in sandwich about 8 miles from Dover. A friend of mine suggested I find a kind and forgiving mot tester , rarer than rocking horse poo me thinks

I'm just past Eastry. I won't put who I use on a public forum but it's about 40 minutes each way. Have a look around in here and I'm sure you will come across his name. smile

This - I was always borderline but ran the car till the oil temp showed around 130 indicated, then it passed. I now have 100 cell cats and still do the same it passes slightly better than the old standard cats

Do you do a lot of small journeys in it?? as said give it a good run on the A258 to get it nice and warm before the test they are supposed to get cars up to the operating temps for the MOT but some garages can't be bothered, so they can be borderline or fail emissions

What I'll do is get it hot and drop it in to the garage and just get them to check the emissions and see what the out come of that is first

My local know when cats are hot it should pass they are always border line on monaro's any way , as above give it a good run first and go straight to emissions test they should be ok , i would do that before thinking of changing cats

Just a thought. Plough Garage at Whitfield deal with a lot of big American cars, so may be sympathetic.
