So... After my starter motor failed at TR yesterday I've been having a look to see how to get it out to be replaced.

Has anyone replaced their starter who has Wortec long tubes? I have read that removing the engine mount should be enough room to squeeze through. Can anyone confirm it'll get through with the Wortec exhaust?

Also, potentially stupid question. How do I support the engine while one of the mounts is out?

If anyone has a starter motor in stock for a decent price I'm all ears ears

Monkfish? - They should tell you if Brett or Neil bought any they had. rolleyes

PWP (you'll have to check the part number with them)

Or there's the US (if an LHD one will fit) or Oz if not.

You have a year until the next Thunder Road, so plenty of time to get it sorted. wink

After some digging I found that the LS1 and LS2 starters for the monaro appear to be AC Delco 92169668 (same as Pontiac GTO in the states), which corresponds to STR 71225 which can be found here:

http://www.woodauto.com/Component.aspx?Ref=STR7122...

Just for anyone's info in future. I'll post back to confirm when fitted if it all goes together!

I recently changed my starter on an LS2 Monaro with long tubes, although not specifically Wortecs. The starter came out easily once you disconnected the steering rack from the column and just let it drop slightly. Was a surprisingly painless job and didn't take too long either.

Ah, ok. I'll give that a shot them as I'm sure it'll be easier than removing he engine mount.

Did you just unbolt at the UJ and let the rack drop down? Thanks

Pretty much. Remove the power steering pipes, unbolt the rack and let it drop down a little bit, which gave me enough clearance.

Monkfish have starters available, I'm having mine done right now. Approx £350.

I've got a new starter motor sitting on my desk now ready for fitting. Will give you a shout if this one doesn't work for any reason.

Changed my LS2 starter motor recently. P/N is 92211821. Will cost you around £250 all in now that sterling has crashed because of the euro vote. Fitment is easy, just need to unhook the fan assembly out of the way. rads can stay fitted. Manifolds are not in the way.

Rad and fan assembly? Do you mean alternator rather than starter?

Looking for some advice...

Replaced the starter motor and it's still the same! Rapid clicking of the solenoid but no starting.

Before replacing the starter I charged the battery fully, just in case. Voltage on that is ok. Also wire brushed the connections on the battery and the starter to ensure good connection.

Now after the failed starting the dash comes up "service engine soon " not the usual service light so it may be some electrical gremlins.

No idea where to go now. confused Anyone experienced similar?

Not read the whole thread , so not sure if it's been mentioned , but maybe a poor earth connection and it not getting enough power , i often put on extra battery to engine earth wires on my cars

I know you fully charged the battery, but you need to check voltage from battery when engine is attempting to crank , if voltage drops to around 9 volts you have a dodgy cell in battery. New battery needed.
